Type Ice

The Ice type (こおりタイプ Kōri taipu in Japanese) is one of the eighteen Pokémon elemental types.

Ice-type Pokémon stand out for being able to endure very low temperatures, as well as adapting to freezing weathers. They control ice at will. Their habitats go from the top of mountains, frozen caves and caverns or even the poles.

Many Ice-type moves have chances of freezing the target, which prevents them from attacking until they thaw out.

Famous Ice-type Pokémon Trainers include Lorelei, a member of the Kanto Elite Four; Pryce, the seventh Gym Leader of the Johto region; Glacia, a member of the Hoenn Elite Four; Candice, the seventh Gym Leader of Sinnoh; and Wulfric, the last Gym Leader of Kalos.

Relations with other types

  • They're strong against the Dragon type because dragons are reptiles, cold-blooded creatures and they can't resist low temperatures.
  • They're strong against the Flying type because most birds run away from cold seasons, that's why they migrate.
  • They're strong against the Grass type because plants don't resist frosts and most of the times die.
  • They're strong against the Ground type because ice erodes the earth.
  • They're weak against the Fire type because fire melts the ice.
  • They're weak against the Fighting type because fighters break ice in their trainings.
  • They're weak against the Rock and Steel types because these both materials are harder than ice, and they can both shatter it.
