Gloom is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I that evolves from Oddish into either Vileplume or Bellossom.

Gloom has a very wide mouth that is nearly always agape, with some drool leaking. The flower on its head is large with four petals. Gloom also has some leaves sticking out of its sides.

Special abilities

All Gloom have the ability Chlorophyll. Chlorophyll allows Gloom's Speed to rise when the sun is strong. The drool of Gloom is very powerful; it can be smelt from miles away.

Gloom is the evolved form of Oddish, as of level 21. Gloom evolves into Vileplume by use of a Leaf Stone. Gloom can also evolve into Bellossom by use of a Sun Stone.

In the anime

Template:I Erika has a Gloom appearing in IL026: Pokémon Scent-sation! on whom Ash rescued from Team Rocket who set it in flames. Florinda has a Gloom appearing in IL068: Make Room for Gloom. In OI026: Pokémon Food Fight!, Gulzar had a Gloom. A Gloom appeared in AG188: Pinch Healing!, DP071: Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part One, DP183: League Unleashed respectively. Several appeared in JL123: Whichever way the Wind Blows!.

Pokédex entries

Gloom appears to be based on a type of flower.

  • Gloom is the only dual-typed that can evolve into a single-type being Bellossom.
  • A threatened Gloom or a normal Gloom will give out a horrifying smell, while if a Gloom is not threatened it's scent will smell just fine.
