Gimmick Pokémon are Pokémon that were used for the showing of new game features.

Minun and Plusle were used to show off the Double Battle feature added in Ruby and Sapphire.
Castform was used to show off the new weather changes added in Ruby and Sapphire.
Deerling and Sawsbuck were used to show off the new season feature added in Black and White.
Pichu was used to demonstrate the new baby Pokémon in the second generation
