Gardenia's Cherubi was first seen battling Ash's Turtwig in The Grass Type Is Always Greener but was quickly recalled and replaced by Gardenia's Turtwig. However by the time Ash battled Gardenia in an official Gym battle, Cherubi had grown considerably stronger and this time forced Ash to recall his Turtwig and send out Staravia. Cherubi made good use of its Chlorophyll ability against both Turtwig and Staravia but was eventually defeated when Staravia smashed down onto it with Wing Attack, slammed into it with Quick Attack and finished it with Aerial Ace.
