Forums: Index Watercooler Move galleries

I have been thinking a lot about those galleries. It seems rather pointless to have them included like that. Recently, I have read how that doesn't boost SEO much, meaning we should move them back to the move pages.

Since that would mean very big pages, we could still use the slideshow. Here's a quick example:

Anime gallery of Flamethrower
Original series XY series SM series
BW series

Comment Comment: I don't have a format that I prefer, so I am fine with either of those. However, if we are going to do slideshows, we should limit the amount of images in the slideshows per series. Moves that are used many times like Flamethrower and such will easily have like 50+ images on the page. Most usages of Flamethrower are the same, so then it will be unnecessary to have so many. I think 5 images per series should be fine. It is going to be a pain though to delete them all, there are like 600+ galleries.--Lordranged7 (talk) 10:55, August 20, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: That is a concern, yes. But as said, the SEO is boosted when there is one page, rather than moving content out of the article just because the gallery is cluttered. Anyway, I was thinking, and we should definitively not include images of same species of Pokémon that use the same move. It is just that in most cases in anime the animation is simply reused in the series (starting from Best Wishes!, I believe), but is updated in the following series.

Also, I have added the tabber, to make some difference. Energy X 20:43, August 22, 2017 (UTC)

Comment Comment: As for reused animation, Mirror Coat and Counter on Sonansu's moves are not even distinguished by the animators with good enough effort to consider them unique and some instances of Mirror Coat or Counter are even recycled from the other one and vice versa. They can be put on the move pages under a section called gallery with the slideshows maybe. We don't even have separate gallery pages for the anime episodes, so it's not like it's necessary to just have a separate page and it's just a mess to put it as a separate mainspace page just for such content. As for deleting the individual gallery pages, it's best to use this category and clear out the pages from the individual sub categories by deleting them all, and then delete the category page. I support this too then, but it's best that these go on the move pages, and have us list the Pokémon pages as we currently do normally. PokémonGamer* 20:55, August 22, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: I like the way the galleries are. They show more animation of different pokemon using a different form of the attack. I prefer them spread out than a slideshow. Maybe we could skip the images of same species of Pokémon.--Kyurem147 (talk) 00:28, August 23, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: I guess we should come to a conclusion since it has been a month after the forum was opened.--Lordranged7 (talk) 14:18, September 22, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: I'll complete the gallery in a few days. Energy X 15:46, September 22, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: Took a while, but the template has been crafted. See Tackle#Gallery. Energy X 21:44, October 2, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: Isn't it better to have a limited amount of images per saga/arc etc.? 50+ images seem too many for me. Maybe like 3, 4, or 5 per saga/arc, that should be enough.--Lordranged7 (talk) 21:49, October 2, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: I was much against making these galleries in the first place, just because of that. I really don't know, considering there could be another user that wants to do that, and claiming there are people that wish to see entire overview of a Move being used in anime, for example. At best, we'd definitively need a vote for to determine the limit for the images. Energy X 21:58, October 2, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: For moves that aren't used much that won't be a problem. The problem lies with the moves like Flamethrower and Hyper Beam. Before moving the gallery pages, we should decide the limit first. In my opinion, five should be enough.--Lordranged7 (talk) 22:03, October 2, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: My opinion on the subject is simply to have one for each generation and separate it by anime, manga, games and other. Like done before, it just points out the drawing style, how it changed and improved. Energy X 19:23, October 3, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: That can be done as well, I am fine with either as long as it won't clutter the galleries. I guess we have to hear what the other have to say.--Lordranged7 (talk) 11:09, October 5, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: The sign has been cast. Well, since nobody else wishes to have any say about this, I guess we could limit at least 4 images per gallery, leading up to 28 images per tab in the tabber. Oh, and yeah, the same blog mentions not using any nested tabbers, so the template was altered for that. Energy X 20:53, October 17, 2017 (UTC)
Comment Comment: Alright, I will start to limit some galleries to 4.--Lordranged7 (talk) 11:51, October 18, 2017 (UTC)
