Tynamo (Japanese: シビシラス, HepburnShibishirasu) (TY-nuh-moh[1]) is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Tynamo is a very small eel-like Pokémon. Its tiny body is white, with a yellow zigzagging pattern across its side. It has very small black eyes and a small slightly star-shaped mouth with four points. Tynamo's appearance is a bit like a triple cross-over of a tadpole, eel and a glassfish.

Behavior[]

Tynamo live in large schools. Though technically amphibious, these Pokémon can live their lives either entirely on water, on land, or both with no ill effects. These Pokémon tend to congregate in damper areas where they can easily access water to keep themselves hydrated, and find strength in numbers; while individually weak, many Tynamo emitting their shocks together can create jolts as strong as bolts of lightning. When threatened, a school of Tynamo will ball tightly together so that any foes that attempt to attack will be met with discharged electricity from the entire group.

In some regions, the tiny shocks of electricity from a lone Tynamo were traditionally used to numb small regions of the body prior to invasive medical operations.

Natural abilities[]

When not in the water, Tynamo levitate by generating weak electromagnetic forces beneath them. They have tiny organs that generates minute electrical charges they can use to shock foes, though the weak voltage fails to significantly hinder opponents.

Evolution[]

Tynamo evolves into Eelektrik at level 39 and then into Eelektross when a Thunder Stone is used.

Pokédex entries[]

  • Black

While one alone doesn't have much power, a chain of many Tynamo can be as powerful as lightning.

  • White

These Pokémon move in schools. They have an electricity-generating organ, so they discharge electricity if in danger.

  • Black 2

One alone can emit only a trickle of electricity, so a group of them gathers to unleash a powerful electric shock.

Trivia[]

  • Tynamo and its evolutions are Electric-Type Pokémon with the ability Levitate, making them not have any type weaknesses.
  • Tynamo's name backwards is Omanyte without the E at the end.
  • Along with Pachirisu, the Tynamo line's category begins with 'Ele', referencing to electricity.
  • Despite being a pure Electric, it is an aquatic Pokémon.

Origin[]

Tynamo's appearance is most likely based on a leech, lamprey, or baby electric eel. The shape of its mouth and body shape overall may make it based on a Crookes tube, an early experimental type of electrical discharge tube.

Etymology[]

Tynamo comes from tyke (a small child) or tiny and dynamo (a machine that converts energy into electricity).
