Poké Assist is a feature used in Pokémon Ranger. Players can use the Pokémon they captured to power up their Styler with a Poké Assist. To use Poké Assists, tap on the lower right screen of the touch screen during a capture, and select the Pokémon you want it to assist you. Different Pokémon have different types of Poké Assist.

In the first Pokémon Ranger game, Normal, Dragon, and Steel are unavailable. In addition to having the types missing from the previous game, several Poké Assists in Shadows of Almia are changed. In Guardian Signs, Poké Assists change greatly. Instead of having the Pokémon give the Styler and temporary new power, the Pokémon itself is placed the screen during the capture and attacks with a move that adds to the friendship gauge if it hits the Pokémon being captured. After the Pokémon finishes launching it's move it returns to the party and it's power must be recharged for a short time. In Multiplayer Mode, only the Partner Pokémon can be used for Poké Assists and it's power, effect level, and recharge time can be upgraded by five levels.

If you have use the Poké Assist, the selected Pokémon will leave you (except your Partner Pokémon). There is a time limit for all Poké Assist (except Recharge, and Discharge in first version of Pokémon Ranger). In Guardian Signs, if the Pokémon placed on the field is hit by an enemy Pokémon's attack, they will leave the party. In Multiplayer Mode, if the Partner Pokémon is hit by an attack, instead of leaving the party, it's recharge time is greatly lengthened until the next time it is used. Stronger Pokémon tend to have longer time limits and in Guardian Signs, have stronger moves.

When Pokémon become agitated, the Styler's power is reduced to a tenth, but Poké Assists' power do no change, making them effective against the state.

Special Poké Assists[]

Discharge Poke Assist

Discharge[]

In the first Pokémon Ranger game, Plusle or Minun (depending on the Player's gender) can unleash streams of electricity that temporarily paralyze non-ground Pokémon that are hit by them. As the Player's Ranger Rank increases, the size and number of the electricity streams increase.

172Ukulele Pichu Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs

Ukulele Pichu[]

In Guardian Signs, Ukulele Pichu will occasionally appear on the bottom of the screen where it can be tapped to have it appear on the field. Ukulele Pichu will then play it's ukulele and send out musical notes that increase the friendship gauge of any Pokémon they hit. Throughout the game, the ukulele's capabilities are increased and the assist becomes longer and more powerful. In the first level, Ukulele Pichu will send up single notes. In the second, it sends out more notes at a higher speed and in all directions. In the third level, it releases an electric discharge that rapidly increases the friendship gauge. In the final stage, Pichu will play a finishing note and release lighting strikes across the field, stopping any Pokémon hit by them. While Player, Ukulele Pichu does not respond to being hit with an attack.

381Latios Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs

Latios/Latias[]

While capturing Pokémon while flying on Latios/Latias (depending on the Player's gender), the Eon Pokémon will occasionally appear at the bottom of the screen. When tapped, it will create a swirling vortex of wind that pulls all Pokémon into the center of the screen.

Special Effects[]

Some Poké Assists will afflict the Pokémon they hit with a temporary condition.

Paused The afflicted Pokémon cannot use moves until the effect ends
Tired The afflicted Pokémon's friendship gauge doesn't drain over time until the effect ends
Slowed The afflicted Pokémon's movements become slowed and sluggish until the effect ends
Stopped The afflicted Pokémon cannot move or attack until the effect ends, this condition ends the quickest

Trivia[]

In the downloadable Multiplayer Mission: Deoxys in the Odd Temple, Deoxys' defense forme's attack reduces the power of any Poké Assist to a tenth. In its speed forme the Styler is prevented from being put on the field without taking damage, but Poké Assists can still be used.
