Diamond and Pearl series[]

When Lucario and Maylene first appeared, they were training until Paul's Electabuzz started to attack them. As Maylene's fighting spirit dropped, Lucario was angry, and kept on attacking her. However, Dawn told Maylene that Lucario was only angry because it was worried about her, proven that while stern, it cared deeply for her and would not tolerate people talking negatively about Maylene. Team Rocket appeared, commenting on how pathetic Maylene was, to persuade Lucario to join them. However, Lucario sent them flying, since it didn't want to switch sides. It lated returned to Maylene.[1]

Before the battle began, Maylene and Lucario started to meditate, until Maylene felt hungry. However, Maylene swore to take this training seriously. During her battle against Dawn, Maylene sent Lucario to battle Dawn's Ambipom. The latter used Double Hit, which Lucario countered with Bone Rush. As Ambipom was defeated, Dawn sent her Piplup. Piplup released Bubble Beam, which Lucario countered with an Aura Sphere. Piplup was hit, and retaliated by engulfing Lucario in a Whirlpool, then went to use Peck.

Lucario retaliated with Metal Claw, stopping Piplup's attack. As Piplup went to use Bubble Beam, Lucario dodged that attack and pushed Piplup away with Force Palm. As Lucario went to use another Aura Sphere, it got hit by Piplup's Peck. Lucario attempted to repeat its attack, but once again got countered by Bubble Beam. As Piplup went to execute Peck attack, Lucario went behind Piplup and defeated it with Force Palm.[2]

When Ash challenged Maylene, Lucario was the last Pokémon Maylene used. Lucario defeated Staravia with a Metal Claw (stopping its Brave Bird). Facing Chimchar, it avoided its Flamethrower and Scratch before retaliating with Force Palm. However, Chimchar managed to land a hit with Flame Wheel. Due to Force Palm, Chimchar got paralyzed, and suffered Lucario's Bone Rush attack. It went to use Dig, but was quickly defeated with Aura Sphere and Metal Claw attacks. Lucario then battled Buizel. Buizel used Water Gun, attempting to counter Aura Sphere, but failed and got hit. Lucario used Bone Rush, landing a hit on Buizel's leg. It then went to use Aqua Jet, going around Lucario to dodge its Bone Rush.

It executed Metal Claw, which was countered by Bone Rush. The two sides collided with Sonic Boom and Aura Sphere. However, Buizel got hit by Force Palm. As Lucario launched Aura Sphere, Buizel learned Water Pulse and executed it. The two sides clashed with Aqua Jet and Force Palm, before blowing a hole in the roof with Water Pulse and Aura Sphere. It then started raining: Lucario managed to hit Buizel with Metal Claw, and just as it wnet to use Bone Rush, Buizel's Swift Swim ability was triggered. As Buizel's speed was increased, it avoided Lucario's attacks until they collided with Aqua Jet and Force Palm. Buizel was paralyzed, and the two sides went to finish the battle with Force Palm and Aqua Jet. In the end, the battle finished in a draw, with both Pokémon fainting at the same time.[3]

Lucario appeared again when Team Galactic arrived in Veilstone City to steal meteorites. Lucario used Aura Sphere to stop Saturn's Toxicroak, who fired Dark Pulse. When Team Galactic's meteorites were dropped, Lucario's Bone Rush destroyed the machines on the rocks, preventing Team Galactic from obtaining them. When Team Galactic fled, Lucario used Aura Sphere to strike them, but the distance was too far to score a hit.[4]

Remembering Paul's words, Ash recalled his battle with Maylene's Lucario. He realized he fought his battles alongside his Pokémon, and decided to build his strategy upon that for the battles in Sinnoh League.[5]

Maylene also appeared in the ending scene of the 13th Pokémon movie, along with her Lucario.[6]
