Hugh is the main character's rival in Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2. Both reside in Aspertia City. Hugh raises the First partner Pokémon with the type advantage to the player character's chosen Pokémon and is a key figure within the games' plot.
Appearance[]

Hugh has indigo hair that's spiked vertically. He wears a red training suit with a white collar and a single stripe running down each arm paired with dark blue riding pants that match his hair. His accessories include black finger-less gloves, red shoes with black stripes, and a white fanny pack with a red half-circle. Hugh bears his Xtransceiver on his left wrist.
Personality[]
Hugh is very fond of and cherishes both his Pokémon and his younger sister. Although understanding, he boils up his anger and loses his patience easily— a characteristic most rivals share. He's also quite loud spoken and speaks his mind when his emotions get the best of him, even overreacting when a Pokémon goes missing. Instances of this include berating the owner of a Herdier for showing apparent indifference in his eyes (which was not the case) and scoffing at Cheren's reply by calling it "weak coming from a Gym Leader" when he challenged Cheren to a battle.
Due to a rather harsh experience on his childhood in which Team Plasma kidnapped the Purrloin that was given to his sister as a gift, he seeks to become strong by any means possible to fight Team Plasma (who he has built resentment towards) and search for the lost Purrloin in hopes of bringing it back to his sister. His hatred for Team Plasma is great enough to bear animosity towards the former Team Plasma members, although this changes as the game progresses.
Biography[]
Hugh is the player's childhood friend that is fervent about anything to do with Pokémon. His goal in this game is to become a stronger trainer to find his sister's Purrloin, the Pokémon that he got from his late grandfather which he was planning to give her as a gift. Five years prior, his Purrloin was stolen by the Shadow Triad, as he was too weak to take them back from them. Hugh is able to be named anything the player wants his name to be.
Hugh ask the player for back-up most of the time if Team Plasma is around and is a supporting role throughout the entirety of the games.
After the player enters the Hall of Fame, Hugh will challenge him/her in Undella Town once per day, though he/she can still reject the said battle. If the player wins, Hugh will give them Surf (HM06). He will later head to Driftveil City to assist former Team Plasma members on helping lost Pokémon return to their trainers.
During the end credits, Hugh can be seen with Rood, Clay, Anthea and Concordia at the residence of former Plasma members.

- When battling on the Plasma Frigate near Humilau City, a Team Plasma Grunt comments on how Hugh's hair resembles that of a Qwilfish.
