As Burmy[]
Finding a lone Burmy, who was licking some tree sap, Cheryl sent her Chansey to battle it. Chansey had Burmy attack with Double Slap, but the latter protected itself. Using Egg Bomb, Chansey hit Burmy, enough for Cheryl to capture it with a Poké Ball. Telling to the heroes that it had to evolve so she could find the enchanted honey, Ash sent Turtwig to battle it, so it could gain some experience. Burmy used Tackle on Turtwig, who retaliated with the same move, which was proven too powerful for Burmy to be sent flying away. Burmy went to attack, but it tripped over, causing some of its leaves to be scattered on Turtwig's eyes. The latter became startled, and attacked Burmy by accident. As the situation wasn't working, Ash swapped Turtwig with Pikachu. Burmy attacked Pikachu, who pretended to fall over. Burmy went to repeat its attack, but was captured by Team Rocket, and was taken away.
At their hideout, Team Rocket wanted Burmy to gain experience, too, and Jessie sent Wobbuffet to battle it. However, Burmy was quite hungry, and ate all of their food. Burmy was ready to battle, and went to attack Wobbuffet, who reflected the attack to Burmy. Burmy then assumed defensive stance, by using Protect, despite battling Wobbuffet. Meowth became angry, as he went to use Fury Swipes on Burmy, accidentally causing it to faint. Team Rocket became quite furious as to why Burmy would not attack. As the heroes arrived and attacked Team Rocket, Burmy joined the battle as it used Hidden Power on Team Rocket. At this moment, Burmy evolved into a Mothim.[1]
As Mothim[]
Learning Psybeam, Mothim executed it on Seviper and Carnivine, joined by Chansey's Egg Bomb. As Team Rocket was blasted away, Mothim started to smell a scent, to which Cheryl believed it must've found some enchanted honey.[1] However, Mothim led the group to a honey trap that Cheryl planted earlier to lure a Burmy out. The next day, Cheryl followed Mothim, but let herself be entangled in some vines. Mothim followed a Gloom's scent, to which the group met up with Gardenia. Later, Team Rocket attempted to capture Mothim, but were defeated by Gardenia's Turtwig and Pikachu's Thunderbolt. A moment later, Mothim picked up a scent of a Combee, so Gardenia parted ways with them to let the group follow Combee.[2]
The heroes followed Mothim, until it lost Combee, and could not track it anymore. Suddenly, a group of Combee, forming a wall, emerged, to which Mothim and Pikachu followed it, finding a way behind a waterfall. However, they entered a series of tunnels, in which they easily got lost. Wandering around a bit, they found some Combee flying away, and encountering Team Rocket, believed the latter to be the source of the new troubles. The two sides fought a bit until the Combee arrived, attacking both sides. Mothim used Supersonic to confuse the Combee, and Team Rocket was soon defeated. Mothim led the group deeper in the tunnels, until they found a wall made of Combee. Combee unleashed a Psybeam, to which Mothim used Supersonic to confuse them, causing the Combee to disperse, revealing a chamber made of honey. Since Team Rocket arrived, the group defeated them, and the Combee's leader, a Vespiquen, gave Cheryl a pot of the enchanted honey, thus finishing her quest.[3]
