Fennekin (Japanese: フォッコ Fokko) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It is the Fire-type Starter of Kalos.

Fennekin is a small fox-like Pokémon. It has yellow, orange, and white fur. The fur on its long, pointy muzzle and face is white, while its body is mainly covered in bright yellow fur. It has fluffy tufts of vibrant flame-orange fur protruding from its ears. Its eyes are round and bright orange with slit pupils. Its nose is round and black. It has a short bushy yellow tail with an orange tip, similarly shaped to the tail of Zorua.

Searing heat blows from Fennekin's ears when it is threatened. It loves to snack on twigs, which help generate more body heat. It can be temperamental, but it tries to do its best for its Trainer.

Fennekin can be evolved into a Braixen at level 16 and into Delphox at 36.

Eating a twig fills it with energy, and its roomy ears give vent to air hotter than 390 degrees Fahrenheit.
As it walks, it munches on a twig in place of a snack. It intimidates opponents by puffing hot air out of its ears.

Serena's Fennekin

In the anime, Serena received a Fennekin from Professor Sycamore as her starter Pokémon.

Fennekin shares the same species name with Vulpix and Ninetales who are also called the Fox Pokémon.

Fennekin's name comes from the animal fennec fox, a desert fox, and kindle. Fennekin is based on the form of the Shara of North Africa Fennec Fox or Fex the Vulpes Zerda. The name Fennekin is also based on those animals.
