Feebas (Japanese: ヒンバス, HepburnHinbasu) (FEE-bass[1]) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Feebas is a Fish Pokémon. It has light brown skin with a pattern that resembles a Chocolate Chip Cookie. It also has blue fins on its sides and on the top of its head that looks as if its fin was torn. There is also a fin on the back of this Pokémon. Their characteristics are very similar to a Magikarp.

Feebas' Shiny counterpart has purple skin with a Blueberry Cookie-like pattern as opposed to brown skin and Chocolate Chip Cookie-like pattern as well as the fins being colored gray rather than blue.

Behavior[]

Though they may look weak and feeble, Feebas are surprisingly hardy Pokémon. They can survive in weed-choked ponds, even ones with very little water left.-though a few Feebas maniacs certainly exist. To compound this problem, though they can be very plentiful in many areas where other Pokémon cannot be found, they also have the tendency to cluster in large numbers in very specific locations; despite being weak and defenseless, congregating en masse reduces the chance of each individual of being preyed upon—strength in numbers, essentially. This behavior makes them difficult to locate. Once found, though, their dimness makes them easy catches (though they are rather fast). Because they look quite ragged and unappetizing, though, many predators don't even bother trying to seek them out, allowing them to remain plentiful in their refuges. Feebas live near the mud at the bottoms of lakes; they are notable for being able to tolerate both fresh and salt water and are currently being studied for their hardiness.

Natural abilities[]

Feebas have the special ability Swift Swim. This increases Feebas' Speed when it is raining. Feebas are considered the ugliest and weakest Pokémon in the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions. Unlike Magikarp, Feebas can learn TMs and HMs. Feebas was meant to be the weakest Pokémon.

Evolution[]

Feebas evolves into Milotic by leveling up while having more than 170 Beauty points. Since Generation V, it can also evolve when traded while holding a Prism Scale.

Trivia[]

  • Feebas has similarities to Magikarp. Both are known as the Fish Pokémon, both know the same level up moves, both have the same base stats, and both evolve from a small and weak fish into a serpentine Pokémon.
  • Feebas is the first and only Pokémon so far to change its method of evolution from one generation to another.
  • In the original R/S/E, Feebas can only be found on 6 random tiles (that change) on the entirety of Route 119. You would have to fish in those specific tiles in order to find one.

Etymology[]

Feebas comes from feeble (weak) and bass. It is also similar to the Latin word phoebus which translates into "shining one", referencing its future evolution into Milotic.

Origins[]

Feebas appears to be based on a bass and on the tale of The Ugly Duckling on whom first is ugly, but then turns out to be a beautiful swan which is much like Feebas evolving into Milotic which is considered the most beautiful Pokémon ever.
