Electric-type Pokémon (Lighting-type in the TCG) have electricity-oriented powers. This category is usually represented by Pikachu, as Pikachu is the most famous Pokémon of the Electric types, and possibly the most famous out of all Pokémon.

  +
The is one of the eighteen Pokémon elemental types.

  +
The Electric type is a type of Pokémon that have electricity-oriented powers. They possess electro-kinetic abilities, being able to control, store, or even produce electricity.
Electric-type attacks usually have a chance of causing the Paralyze status effect, which gives the affected Pokémon a severe Speed statistic reduction along with a 25% chance of being unable to move for a turn.

  +
Electric-type Pokémon have varied habitats, from forests and prairies to cities and power plants. Electric-type Pokémon are usually fast, and many of their attacks may paralyze the target. Some Electric-type Pokémon also resemble artificial objects used by humans which relate to electricity (the Magnemite and Voltorb evolution lines and Rotom).
Electric Pokémon represent electricity, electrical energy, and light (as many electric Pokémon can learn Flash). Many Electric types are known for living near, around, or sometimes in areas of human inhabitation (possibly due to the large amount of electricity people use). Some electric Pokémon, like Voltorb and Magnemite, resemble artificial objects used by humans (Voltorb's resemble Poké Balls, and the Magnemite family have what appear to be screws and magnets attached to their bodies). In Generation IV, Electric has the least type pairings, as only Water, Steel, Flying, and Ghost have been paired with it. In Generation V, however, the Electric type gains several more type pairings.

  +
Some of the Electric-type Pokémon Trainers are Lt. Surge, the third Gym Leader of Kanto; Wattson, the third Gym Leader of Hoenn; Volkner, the last Sinnoh Gym Leader; Elesa the fourth Gym Leader of Unova; Clemont, the fifth Gym Leader of Kalos; Sophocles, a Trial Captain of Ula'ula Island, Alola; and Iono of Paldea.
Electric Pokemon are also synonymous for speed, many electric types having high speed stats.

Relations with other types
  +
*They have no effect against the Ground-type because in the True X2 Nonfiction life, the ground is a natural sink of electrons hence the term "grounded". Also, electrical appliances don't work when dirt gets into them.
  +
*They're strong against the Flying-type because while in the air, they don't make contact with the ground, so they can't divert the electricity, so they're susceptible to strong electrical currents, and lightning is most likely to strike what's highest above the ground. Also, they resist the Flying-type likely because wind produces electricity.
  +
*They're strong against the Water-type because water is a natural electricity conductor, and if one is in the water, it gets electrocuted as well.
  +
*The Dragon-type resists them because, in old legends, dragons were immune to the natural forces, electricity included.
  +
*The Grass-type resists them because plants and trees are made of materials that don't conduct electricity, like wood and rubber. Also, trees divert the electricity to the ground with their roots.
  +
*They resist the Steel-type because all kinds of metal alloys are great electrical conductors, positive magnetism attracts metal to the point of trapping it, and negative magnetism can repel metal. Something interesting about this is the Steel-type isn't weak to them.
  +
*They resist themselves because adding electricity to another source of electricity increases the source.
  +
*There are electrical fly swatters in real life that are used to kill bugs. However, the Electric type isn't super effective against Bug types unless they are also flying.

Trivia
*As of Generation IX, there have been no Elite Four members or Champions that specialize in the Electric type.

Type Electric
Type Electric HOME

The Electric type (Japanese: でんきタイプ, HepburnDenki taipu) is one of the eighteen Pokémon elemental types.

The Electric type is a type of Pokémon that have electricity-oriented powers. They possess electro-kinetic abilities, being able to control, store, or even produce electricity.

Electric-type Pokémon

77 Pokémon are Electric type.

Secondary Electric-type Pokémon

Pokémon with Electric-type alternate formes

The following alternate formes of some Pokémon are also of the Electric type.

Relations with other types

 • They have no effect against the Ground-type because in the True X2 Nonfiction life, the ground is a natural sink of electrons hence the term "grounded". Also, electrical appliances don't work when dirt gets into them.
 • They're strong against the Flying-type because while in the air, they don't make contact with the ground, so they can't divert the electricity, so they're susceptible to strong electrical currents, and lightning is most likely to strike what's highest above the ground. Also, they resist the Flying-type likely because wind produces electricity.
 • They're strong against the Water-type because water is a natural electricity conductor, and if one is in the water, it gets electrocuted as well.
 • The Dragon-type resists them because, in old legends, dragons were immune to the natural forces, electricity included.
 • The Grass-type resists them because plants and trees are made of materials that don't conduct electricity, like wood and rubber. Also, trees divert the electricity to the ground with their roots.
 • They resist the Steel-type because all kinds of metal alloys are great electrical conductors, positive magnetism attracts metal to the point of trapping it, and negative magnetism can repel metal. Something interesting about this is the Steel-type isn't weak to them.
 • They resist themselves because adding electricity to another source of electricity increases the source.
 • There are electrical fly swatters in real life that are used to kill bugs. However, the Electric type isn't super effective against Bug types unless they are also flying.
