It's well known for being the Pokémon with the highest number of evolution possibilities (8), due to its unstable genetic makeup. It is the Version Mascot and First partner Pokémon for the game Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!. It also has a Gigantamax form.

Appearance
+
Physiology
Eevee is a mammalian creature with brown fur, a bushy tail that has a cream-colored tip, and a furry collar that is also cream-colored. Eevee has brown eyes, big ears, and pink paw pads. Its design appears to be based specifically on the Fennec fox, a small fox like animal that are found in desert like areas. It and its evolutions also have traits of raccoons, foxes, dogs, and cats. Eevee is said to have an irregularly shaped genetic structure, enabling it to evolve into multiple Pokémon.
+
Eevee is a small, fox-like creature with brown fur. Its muzzle is very catlike, with a small, black and triangular nose. It has a fluffy, cream-colored ruff around its neck and a brown, bushy fox-like tail with a cream-colored tip. Eevee has round, brown eyes, long rabbit-like ears, and pink paw pads on its feet. Its paws are small with three toes and no visible claws. A shiny Eevee has silver fur instead of brown, and its ruff and tail-tip are white instead of cream.
Its possible moves are: Tackle, Tail Whip, Helping Hand, Sand-Attack, Growl, Quick Attack, Bite, Baton Pass, Take Down, Last Resort, and Trump Card.

  +
Eevee is said to have an irregularly-shaped genetic structure, enabling it to evolve into multiple different forms, which depends if it touches a stone or its relationship to their Trainer.
Habitat
Eevee is an urban Pokémon and is found mainly near or even in cities. But it is possible that they live anywhere because they evolve to suit their surroundings. Eevee can be found in Kanto but is also found in Johto, Sinnoh and Unova.

  +
As Gigantamax Eevee, its body becomes larger. Its ruff grows longer and fluffier with several triangular furs pointing straight up. The right ear has three red clouds surrounding it in a circle. As the fur becomes fluffier and more luxurious, any enemies caught in it will lose the will to fight due to being enamored by its presence. Eevee's behavior also appears to be more playful and rambunctious when Gigantamaxing, desiring to play with its opponent and often unintentionally crushing them with its size.
Special abilities
Eevee can have either the ability Run Away or Adaptability. Run Away is an ability that will allow the user to run from any wild Pokémon battle, negating the effects of moves that prevent running away like mean look and block. Adaptability increases the users STAB from x1.5 to x2.0.

Eevee are Pokémon with unstable genetic codes. This gives them the ability to evolve into eight different evolutions triggered by the environment, time of day, or the usage of the evolutionary stones Water Stone, Thunderstone, and Fire Stone.

  +
Shiny Eevee have a more gray-silver appearance.
Evolution
Eevee can evolve into one of eight forms. These forms are: Jolteon by use of a Thunderstone, Flareon by use of a Fire Stone, Vaporeon by use of a Water Stone, Espeon when leveled up with high friendship during the day, Umbreon when leveled up with high friendship during the night, Leafeon when leveled up in Eterna Forest or Pinwheel Forest, Glaceon when leveled up on Route 217 or Twist Mountain, Sylveon when leveled up high happiness.

As of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, a male partner Eevee has a zigzag pattern at the tip of his tail, which was once for universal genders. With a female partner Eevee, they now have a heart-shaped pattern at the tip of their tail. These differences do not exist in non-partnered Eevees. This was likely meant to correspond with Pikachu's gender differences.

  +
In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, these gender differences apply to all Eevee.
Appearances
In the anime
Eevee first appeared in The Battling Eevee Brothers. A little boy named Mikey was hiding the Evolution Pokémon from his three older brothers because they wanted him to evolve it. However, when Mikey's Eevee single-handedly defeated Team Rocket, they were able to accept the fact that Mikey wanted to keep his Eevee just the way it is. Ash's longtime rival Gary Oak uses an Eevee of great quality that eventually evolves into Umbreon. May has an Eevee that hatched from an egg, which she used in Pokémon Contests all across the Kanto and Johto region. When May traveled to Sinnoh, she took it to Route 217 to evolve into a Glaceon. The Kimono Girls who first appeared in the Pokémon Gold and Silver games, also make an appearance with their Pokémon (all of which are evolutions of Eevee) in Trouble's Brewing. The youngest of the Kimono girls had an unevolved Eevee (the only of the sisters to have one), though it evolved into an Espeon later on in the episode "Espeon, Not Included".

Eevee is a Pokémon found mainly in cities, although it is possible that they live anywhere because they evolve to suit their surroundings. Eevee can mostly be found in Kanto but is also found in Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, Central Kalos, Alola and Galar.

In Paldea, Eevee (Lv. 30) is most abundant in the grasslands north of Medali. Eevee can also be found around the entrance to the Pokemon League (Lv. 7) northwest of Mesagoza and in the fields west of Cortondo (Lv. 10), although it spawns more rarely here. The League route is particularly unreliable. As mentioned, they tend to spawn near urban settlements, so if you stray too far from town, pull back. If there's still no luck, try leaving and returning to the area, e.g. by flying to a distant town and then straight back to reload the area and reroll the spawns. Another tip is to try eating a Ham Sandwich to increase encounters with Normal Pokémon. Eevee usually spawns solo rather than in groups.

Partner Eevee is also capable to learning special moves: Bouncy Bubble, Buzzy Buzz, Sizzly Slide, Glitzy Glow, Baddy Bad, Sappy Seed, Freezy Frost, Sparkly Swirl, and the Partner Power, Veevee Volley.
In the manga
Pokemon Adventures
In Pokémon Adventures, Red is in possession of an Eevee which had been experimented on by Team Rocket. As a result, it could transform back and forth from the three evolutions Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon along with its base form, allowing it greater tactical ability in fighting other Pokémon. Eventually, it evolved into an Espeon, losing its special ability to interchange abilities.

Electric tale of Pikachu
+
Z-Moves
  +
Eevee is one of the few Pokémon in Sun and Moon which have a special Z-Move dedicated to them.
In the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, the character Mikey (who appeared in the anime episode: "The Battling Eevee Brothers") makes an appearance with his own Eevee and within the chapter that he appears in, Mikey attempts to prove to his brothers that he doesn't need to evolve his Eevee to win battles.

  +
The Z-Move Extreme Evoboost is Eevee's signature move. The move is activated by the Z-Crystal, Eevium Z. Its base is Last Resort. Extreme Evoboost can be learned only by an Eevee with Last Resort, and becomes unusable if Last Resort is forgotten or if the Eevee evolves into one of its evolution.

Gigantamax
  +
Eevee is one of the few Pokémon in Sword and Shield that can Gigantamax by having a special member from its species.
  +
  +
Gigantamax Eevee is the only known Pokémon capable of using the G-Max move, G-Max Cuddle.
  +
  +
Evolution
  +
Eevee can evolve into one of eight different forms with different types. These forms include:
  +
*Jolteon by use of a Thunder Stone;
  +
*Flareon by use of a Fire Stone;
  +
*Vaporeon by use of a Water Stone;
  +
*Espeon when leveled up with high friendship during the day;

*Leafeon when leveled up in Eterna Forest, Pinwheel Forest, Route 20 in Kalos, Petalburg Woods, Lush Jungle or wherever there is a Moss Rock in Generation IV to Generation VII, or by use of a Leaf Stone in Generation VIII;
  +
*Glaceon when leveled up on Route 217, Twist Mountain, Frost Cavern, Shoal Cave, Mount Lanakila or wherever there is an Ice Rock in Generation IV to Generation VII, or by use of an Ice Stone in Generation VIII;
  +
*Sylveon by knowing a Fairy-type move, while leveling up and playing with Eevee through Pokémon-Amie (Gen VI), Pokémon Refresh (Gen VII) and earning at least two affection hearts or when leveled up with high friendship (Gen VIII onwards).

In Pokémon Adventures, Red was in possession of an Eevee which had been experimented on by Team Rocket. As a result, it could transform back and forth from the three evolutions: Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon along with its base form, allowing it greater tactical ability in fighting other Pokémon. Eventually, it evolved into an Espeon, losing its special ability to interchange abilities.

Electric Tale of Pikachu
In The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, the character Mikey (who appeared in the anime episode: "The Battling Eevee Brothers") made an appearance with his own Eevee and within the chapter that he appeared in, Mikey attempted to prove to his brothers that he didn't need to evolve his Eevee to win battles.

**Only four other Pokémon have this trait, those being Girafarig, Farigiraf, Ho-Oh, and Alomomola.
* In the Pokémon Special manga, Red owned an Eevee that had undergone genetic mutation, due to Team Rocket's experiments, allowing it to evolve and devolve and evolve again. It is noted that it went from Jolteon to Flareon to Vaporeon, and then back to Eevee. This power was available through an ear device that causes harm to Eevee as it evolved or devolved. Eventually it trusted Red enough to evolve into an Espeon, losing the ability to devolve.

  +
*Eevee, Poliwhirl and Gloom are the only three Pokémon that can evolve into more than one Pokémon using multiple elemental stones.
* Eevee is given to the player in most of the Pokémon games.

  +
*An Eevee will be bonded to the player character in Pokémon Conquest.
* Eevee has been featured as a starter Pokémon in three Pokémon games. The first was in Pokémon Yellow where the player's rival received an Eevee as his starter. The second was in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness where the player begins the game with an Eevee which he received at some point prior to the events of the game (though the specifics of how long the player's character has owned the Eevee and the circumstances under which he received it are not revealed). The third is in Pokémon Conquest where the players receives an Eevee as his/her starter. Also, in Pokémon Colosseum, the player begins the game with two starters which are both already evolved Eevees (namely the two evolved forms introduced in the Generation 2 games, Espeon and Umbreon).

  +
*Eevee has the most evolutions of any Pokémon, with eight.
*Eevee's evolved states (for example, Espeon and Umbreon) can defeat one another. Umbreon can defeat Espeon, since Espeon is a Psychic-type, it wont hurt Umbreon if it uses a Psychic-type move.

  +
**Eevee is the Pokémon with the most evolutions using elemental stones so far, being three from Generation I to Generation VII and in Generation VIII being five.
*Out of all of the Eeveelutions, Umbreon is the only one that isn't at a type disadvantage to another.

  +
*In the Eeveelution chain, all Pokémon evolving from Eevee have "eon" at the end of their names.
**Espeon is weak against Umbreon; Flareon is weak against Vaporeon; Vaporeon is weak against Jolteon and Leafeon (although it's moves do normal damage on Jolteon); Leafeon is weak against Glaceon and Flareon (although it's moves to normal damage on Glaceon) and Glaceon is weak against Flareon (also, Glaceon's type is weak against Vaporeon and Jolteon's is weak against Leafeon).

  +
*It was the first Pokémon to be able to evolve by happiness in night or day, leveling up near the Mossy Rock or Ice Rock up until Generation VIII, and having 2 affection hearts in Pokémon-Amie and knowing a Fairy-type move.
*Espeon is the only Eeveelution that doesn't have a type advantage against any of the others.

  +
*Up to Generation VIII, Eevee is one of the few Pokémon to evolve in a certain location (near a Mossy Rock or a Frozen Stone). The others being Magneton, Nosepass, Charjabug and Crabrawler. However, Eevee is the only one of them that has more than one evolution.
**Umbreon is good against Espeon; Flareon is good against Glaceon and Leafeon; Vaporeon is good against Flareon; Jolteon is good against Vaporeon; Leafeon is good against Vaporeon and Glaceon is good against Leafeon.

  +
**Similarly, Eevee is one of the ten Pokémon that evolves upon knowing a move. In this case, it needs to know a Fairy-type move.
*Eevee and the Eeveelutions currently hold the record for the most amount of types in one evolutionary line with 8.

  +
*Despite requiring a Fairy-type move to evolve into Sylveon, the only Fairy-type moves Eevee can learn are Baby-Doll Eyes and Charm through leveling up.
*Eevee's form is based on one of a fennec fox.

  +
**Also in Pokémon Sun and Moon, once the Eevee evolves into Sylveon, it can learn Fairy Wind.
*All of the Eeveelutions have a base stat of 130 and another of 60.

  +
*Eevee is so far the only Pokémon that didn't originally have a gender difference but received one in a later generation game.
*An Eevee will be bonded to the player in Pokémon Conquest

  +
* Up to Generation V, all generations include at least 2 versions where NPCs will give the player an Eevee.
*Eevee is the Pokémon with the most evolutions using elemental stones so far.

  +
*In Pokémon FireRed, the Japanese Pokédex claims that Eevee have 3 evolutions while there are actually 5 in Generation III.
* In the Eeveelution chain, all Pokémon after Eevee have "eon" at the end of their names.

  +
**The reason may be the lack of a time system in the game, which are necessary to evolve Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon.
* All Eeveelutions are of a singular type, none have the same type as another, all share the same base stat total and all share the same gender ratio (1 female to 7 males).

  +
*In Super Smash Bros., Eevee is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it uses the move Take Down.
*It is a possible choice for the hero in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of the Sky, if the player is female and of a specific nature.

  +
*Eevee's English name was originally going to be Eon.
*In Pokémon X & Y, a new Pokémon, Sylveon, was introduced.

  +
*Eevee was chosen as Pikachu's counterpart in the Let's Go games primarily due to its popularity and also its simplicity.
*Eevee has the same gender chance as all Starter Pokemon- 12.5% chance of female and 87.5% chance of male.

  +
*Until Let's Go, the only way the player could get an Eevee in a Pokémon game primarlily set in Kanto was to get one in the secret entrance in Celadon Mansion. As of Let's Go, it was added to Route 17.
  +
*Eevee got its cry from the anime (voiced by Aoi Yūki) in all games after Pokémon Let's Go, a feature that was previously exclusive to Pikachu.
  +
*The Partner Eevee in Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! is shiny locked. This means that your partner cannot be a Shiny Pokémon.

Origin
eevee

  +
According to Motofumi Fujiwara, a key person at Game Freak, Eevee was based on a vague childhood experience he had. He described seeing an "indefinable creature" and that Eevee was based on a drawing of all that he could remember of it. Though it wasn't based on any distinct animal, Fujiwara mentioned that Eevee reminded him of a fluffy cat or dog-like creature.

  +
Each one of Eevee's evolutions are based on the same design but are made to resemble their type.

Etymology
  +
Eevee's name likely comes from the letters E-V, an abbreviation for the word "evolution". Its Japanese name, Iibui, literally means "evolve". Eevee's original name, Eon, is simply the word eon (a long period of time).

Eevee (Japanese: イーブイ, HepburnIibui) (EE-vee[1]) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It's well known for being the Pokémon with the highest number of evolution possibilities (8), due to its unstable genetic makeup. It is the Version Mascot and First partner Pokémon for the game Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!. It also has a Gigantamax form.

Biology

Physiology

Eevee is a small, fox-like creature with brown fur. Its muzzle is very catlike, with a small, black and triangular nose. It has a fluffy, cream-colored ruff around its neck and a brown, bushy fox-like tail with a cream-colored tip. Eevee has round, brown eyes, long rabbit-like ears, and pink paw pads on its feet. Its paws are small with three toes and no visible claws. A shiny Eevee has silver fur instead of brown, and its ruff and tail-tip are white instead of cream.

Eevee is said to have an irregularly-shaped genetic structure, enabling it to evolve into multiple different forms, which depends if it touches a stone or its relationship to their Trainer.

Shiny Eevee have a more gray-silver appearance.

Gender differences

As of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, a male partner Eevee has a zigzag pattern at the tip of his tail, which was once for universal genders. With a female partner Eevee, they now have a heart-shaped pattern at the tip of their tail. These differences do not exist in non-partnered Eevees. This was likely meant to correspond with Pikachu's gender differences.

In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, these gender differences apply to all Eevee.

Habitat

Natural abilities

Eevee are Pokémon with unstable genetic codes. This gives them the ability to evolve into eight different evolutions triggered by the environment, time of day, friendship levels, or the usage of the evolutionary stones Water Stone, Thunderstone, Fire Stone, Leaf Stone (Generation VIII), and Ice Stone (Generation VIII).

Partner Eevee is also capable to learning special moves: Bouncy Bubble, Buzzy Buzz, Sizzly Slide, Glitzy Glow, Baddy Bad, Sappy Seed, Freezy Frost, Sparkly Swirl, and the Partner Power, Veevee Volley.

Z-Moves

Eevee is one of the few Pokémon in Sun and Moon which have a special Z-Move dedicated to them.

Gigantamax

Eevee is one of the few Pokémon in Sword and Shield that can Gigantamax by having a special member from its species.

Gigantamax Eevee is the only known Pokémon capable of using the G-Max move, G-Max Cuddle.

Evolution

Eevee can evolve into one of eight different forms with different types. These forms include:

Manga

Pokémon Adventures

Trivia

Eevee doll

Eevee Plush Doll

  • Eevee and Pikachu are the only First partner Pokémon in the mainline RPG games that deviates from the usual Grass, Fire, and Water-typings.
  • So far, Eevee is one of two Pokémon to have three or more evolutions, and is the only Pokémon that has four or more.
    • The only other Pokémon with more than two evolutions is Tyrogue.
  • Eevee was the first Pokémon to have a different evolution depending on the time of day.
  • Eevee's name is a palindrome, meaning it is spelled the same backwards as is forward.
  • Eevee, Poliwhirl and Gloom are the only three Pokémon that can evolve into more than one Pokémon using multiple elemental stones.
  • An Eevee will be bonded to the player character in Pokémon Conquest.
  • Eevee has the most evolutions of any Pokémon, with eight.
  • In the Eeveelution chain, all Pokémon evolving from Eevee have "eon" at the end of their names.
  • It was the first Pokémon to be able to evolve by happiness in night or day, leveling up near the Mossy Rock or Ice Rock up until Generation VIII, and having 2 affection hearts in Pokémon-Amie and knowing a Fairy-type move.
  • Up to Generation VIII, Eevee is one of the few Pokémon to evolve in a certain location (near a Mossy Rock or a Frozen Stone). The others being Magneton, Nosepass, Charjabug and Crabrawler. However, Eevee is the only one of them that has more than one evolution.
    • Similarly, Eevee is one of the ten Pokémon that evolves upon knowing a move. In this case, it needs to know a Fairy-type move.
  • Despite requiring a Fairy-type move to evolve into Sylveon, the only Fairy-type moves Eevee can learn are Baby-Doll Eyes and Charm through leveling up.
    • Also in Pokémon Sun and Moon, once the Eevee evolves into Sylveon, it can learn Fairy Wind.
  • Eevee is so far the only Pokémon that didn't originally have a gender difference but received one in a later generation game.
  • Up to Generation V, all generations include at least 2 versions where NPCs will give the player an Eevee.
  • In Pokémon FireRed, the Japanese Pokédex claims that Eevee have 3 evolutions while there are actually 5 in Generation III.
    • The reason may be the lack of a time system in the game, which are necessary to evolve Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon.
  • In Super Smash Bros., Eevee is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it uses the move Take Down.
  • Eevee's English name was originally going to be Eon.
  • Eevee was chosen as Pikachu's counterpart in the Let's Go games primarily due to its popularity and also its simplicity.
  • Until Let's Go, the only way the player could get an Eevee in a Pokémon game primarlily set in Kanto was to get one in the secret entrance in Celadon Mansion. As of Let's Go, it was added to Route 17.
  • Eevee got its cry from the anime (voiced by Aoi Yūki) in all games after Pokémon Let's Go, a feature that was previously exclusive to Pikachu.
  • The Partner Eevee in Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! is shiny locked. This means that your partner cannot be a Shiny Pokémon.

Origin

According to Motofumi Fujiwara, a key person at Game Freak, Eevee was based on a vague childhood experience he had. He described seeing an "indefinable creature" and that Eevee was based on a drawing of all that he could remember of it. Though it wasn't based on any distinct animal, Fujiwara mentioned that Eevee reminded him of a fluffy cat or dog-like creature.[2]

Each one of Eevee's evolutions are based on the same design but are made to resemble their type.[2]

Etymology

Eevee's name likely comes from the letters E-V, an abbreviation for the word "evolution". Its Japanese name, Iibui, literally means "evolve". Eevee's original name, Eon, is simply the word eon (a long period of time).

Names in other languages
