Pikachu's Plan (Japanese: ウイナーズカップ(2), HepburnUinaazu Kappu (2)trans. Winner's Cup (2)) is the 4th chapter of Volume 4 of The Electric Tale of Pikachu.

Synopsis[]

Ash continues his fight against Drake. Ash uses his ace Pokémon against Drake's Dragonite, in hopes to win the Orange Cup. After Charizard fails to defeat Dragonite, Ash sends Pikachu, who struggles to battle Dragonite.

Chapter plot[]

Moments later, Lapras, Bulbasaur, Tauros and Squirtle fight hard in the Championship match. has defeated most of Drake's Pokémon, leaving Drake with only one Pokémon left. Ash praises Squirtle, while the announcers debate that while Ash has three Pokémon left, Drake's last Pokémon is Dragonite, the single Pokémon that has defeated many of Drake's previous challengers. Drake smiles, seeing Ash is a real tough opponent, then throws his Poké Ball to send Dragonite out. Ash has Squirtle uses Hydro Pump, but Dragonite quickly looms over Squirtle, overpowering it and defeating it with one attack. The announcers are shocked, too, to see Squirtle being defeated in a single second.

Ash braces himself, as he sends his ace out, Charizard. Jessie asks Misty if this is a bad idea, but Misty assures her that Ash has been training Charizard since the Indigo League. Charizard uses Flamethrower, but Dragonites flies off to evade the attack. It flies behind Charizard and bashes it. Dragonite retaliates with Ice Beam, which wounds Charizard, who uses its tail to protect itself. As others wonder just how powerful Dragonite is, Ash has Charizard use Fire Spin, followed with Seismic Toss. The attack envelops Dragonite in flames, so Charizard goes near it to execute its second attack, and goes to grapple it. However, Dragonite grabs Charizard by its neck, then quickly descends down to toss it to the ground.

Charizard is badly hurt from this attack. Drake has Dragonite use Dragon Rage, so Ash has Charizard attempt the same. However, Charizard barely has the strength to retaliate, and the two Pokémon's attacks collide, creating a blast. After the smoke clears, Charizard is on the ground, having fainted. This leaves Ash with Pikachu as his final Pokémon, who has been worn out from its battle against Ditto. Ash, concerned, looks at Pikachu, who winks. Ash trusts it enough, as it stands to battle Dragonite, while Drake anticipates more out of this battle. Pikachu leaps around Dragonite, who ignores it and slams it away with its tail. Pikachu attempts to electrocute Dragonite, who protects itself. The announcers compare this like a battle between a child and an adult.

Jessie sees this match is no fun to watch, though James reminds that Dragonite did suffer some damage from Charizard, but Meowth shows that's why Dragonite has the winning streak. Misty contacts Ash, asking of him to withdraw Pikachu, as it could seriously injure itself if it continues this battle. Ash yells out that this is his battle, and he will decide when he will withdraw. He bashes the screen, logging out, which prompts Misty to think what's his game. Ash deeply knows that Pikachu wants to win, and cannot surrender the match. Drake, to finish the match, has Dragonite use Hyper Beam. The announcers proclaim this to be the end: Dragonite fires the beam at Pikachu, creating a huge explosion. However, after the smoke clears, nobody can see where Pikachu is on the battlefield. Ash smirks, for Pikachu is flying up: it curled itself using Reflect, and the blast simply lifted it up in mid-air, above Dragonite.

Pikachu lands directly on Dragonite's head. Using this opportunity, Pikachu enters Dragonite's mouth, to which Drake shouts in disbelief. Pikachu electrocutes Dragonite inside its mouth with the Thunder move, causing Dragonite to fall down, defeated. The announcers are astounded how scary this Pikachu really is: it comes out of Dragonite's mouth, shakes the drool off and licks itself, before making a huge smile. As the stadium cheers for Ash having won this battle, he descends down to come to Pikachu. He compliments Pikachu for the victory, and hugs it, proclaiming it is his "pride and joy". The two walk to Drake, who is tending to Dragonite. Drake admits this was the best battle he had in ages, to which Ash thanks him for having such a great match. Around the world, Brock and Ricthie have watched Ash's match, and smile for his victory, as well as Misty and Team Rocket, who are proud of Ash.

Ash opens his Poké Balls, shouting out with his Pokémon team that he won the match. Later, Ash and Pikachu are resting on the beach, under a parasol. Misty tries to motivate him to play, even if he is exhausted from the Championship battle. Ash tries to diss her off, since this was an important battle and has to recover his strength. Misty is annoyed, and, thinking that he has to "recharge his batteries", has Pikachu electrocute him. Ash screams in pain, while Misty laughs as she runs off with Psyduck.
