Domino (ドミノ Domino) is a character from Mewtwo Returns and is a Team Rocket agent. Her real name is unknown, and although she goes by the aliases Domino, 009, and The Black Tulip, almost every other aspect of Domino remains unknown.

Appearance[]

Domino is a short girl around the same height as Ash. She has purple eyes and blonde curled hair that reaches below her chin. Her uniform consists of a red cap with a white front, and she wears mini-dress similar to the one Cassidy uses. The bottom part of the mini-dress is white and has a brown belt and the top is black with a red R insignia on her chest. She wears white thigh-high boots as well as white elbow gloves.

Personality[]

She is completely loyal to Giovanni's cause and follows his orders without a second thought.

When not undercover, she can be arrogant and condescending. When talking to Jessie and James, she belittles them, seeing them as nincompoops and calling their faces those of losers. She is seen to have a fondness for baby Pokémon (as seen when she tells Mewtwo that the baby Nidoqueen she found was a cutie), but has no sympathy for adult Pokémon.

Domino was an excellent actress and while she was undercover, she was spunky and friendly to Ash and his friends. When she revealed her true motives, Cullen was sincerely surprised.

Abilities[]

Domino has been seen using a number of gadgets and is a formidable combatant. She also uses a special black tulip through which she can use as a needle, send an electrical charge, and turn into a vaulting pole. Domino also has abilities with acrobatics and has advanced level gymnastic skills. For example, during Domino and the others' trek up Mount Quena, a boulder rolls down their path, right towards Domino. Cullen panics, but Domino appears above him, using her skills to easily dodge the boulder.

Relationships[]

Team Rocket[]

Domino appears to be a high ranking agent in Team Rocket, second only to Giovanni himself. She receives direct orders from Giovanni and is entrusted with command over her own team of lesser agents, known as the Team Rocket Combat Unit, which James himself said was pretty impressive. She also has command over lower-ranking agents such as Jessie and James. Along with this, Domino has also been seen arguing with her boss in showing him that his plans may not work.

Biography[]

Domino was first seen accompanying Cullen Calix as his companion from the Pokémon Institute. After Jessie, James and Meowth appear, she appears to be embarrassed by their seemingly idiotic plan. She later follows Cullen and Ash and company up Mount Quena after the three Team Rocket members capture Pikachu.

After everyone grabs onto Team Rocket's hot air balloon, she swiftly climbs up the others (which Ash is quick to notice before getting stepped on) and - once Ash and the others make it up - introduces herself as Domino of Team Rocket, revealing her true identity as a Team Rocket operative. Cullen is shocked, pointing out that Domino said she worked for the Pokémon Institute. Domino responds that she does, but that Team Rocket has operatives hiding everywhere and pointing out that you'll never know if a friendly face is hiding a fierce foe, looking at the screen while pointing her signature black tulip at it while doing so. After this, she says her goodbye to the group by throwing her black tulip like a needle at the Meowth balloon, causing it to deflate and go out of control before taking off for Mewtwo's island by hang glider.

She is later entrusted with leading the mission to capture all of the island's clone Pokémon and securing the island itself. When a baby Nidoqueen and a baby Rhydon attack Domino, she uses her tulip to send an electrical charge on the Nidoqueen, knocking her unconscious. She also uses a ring to stun the Rhydon, knocking it out too. Ash tells Domino to stop, to which Domino responds that while she does know that trainers catch Pokémon with Pokéballs, she prefers her method more, and explains to Ash that by doing this, she doesn't have to waste any Pokéballs, and reassures him and his friends that she won't hurt the clone Pokémon, saying that they're only going to be used for experiments. After finding Jessie and James in a prison cell, she puts them to work, but when she is fleeing from three Scythers and several Ledian who attack in retaliation for Giovanni's damage to Mount Quena, she slips on the wet floor and falls into a bucket of water head-first, all the while Jessie and James are making fun of her.

After Mewtwo erased all of the Team Rocket Combat Unit's memories of ever seeing the clone Pokémon or Mewtwo, she was seen standing next to Giovanni, musing about what she and everyone else involved had forgotten.

Trivia[]

  • Domino may be named after a female bounty hunter named Domino Harvey.
  • The alias "Black Tulip" is taken from a book by Alexandre Dumas of the same name.
  • Domino's alias 009 is a reference to the James Bond series; MI6 code numbers. Her name "Domino" could also be inspired by a James Bond girl, Domino Vitali, who is the main antagonist's mistress in the novel "Thunderball", and the nickname of Dominique Derval in the movie of the same name.
