Doc Brock! (Japanese: パチリスお熱です! 2人でお留守番!?, HepburnPachirisu Has a Fever! Caretaking by 2 People?!) is the 42nd episode of Pokémon: DP Battle Dimension.

Synopsis[]

On the way to Celestic Town, Ash and his friends are camped at a mountain cabin. While Dawn trains and Ash snoozes, Brock goes down the mountain to visit a pharmacy. That leaves Ash and Dawn in charge of the Pokémon, and their first task is to give the Pokémon a shower. Ash accidentally blasts Pachirisu with cold water, but everything seems to go smoothly. After that, it's lunchtime and a siesta! But naptime is cut short when Pachirisu comes down with a bad fever and there's no Pokémon Center in the area.

While Staravia goes out to find Brock, Ash has Buneary use Ice Beam to make an ice pack for Pachirisu's fever. The little Pokémon is still unwell, and Dawn and Ash argue over whose fault it was before they realize they need to find the berries that Brock uses for sick Pokémon. Meanwhile, Team Rocket sees a Zapdos fly by and try to hit it with a cannon full of sticky goo, but they hit Staravia instead. It manages to evade them, but now it can't fly. When Staravia fails to return, Ash sends Gliscor out to get Brock instead.

Alerted by Gliscor, Brock runs back to the cabin and realizes that Pachirisu may have a build-up of excess electricity. Once he drains the extra charge and treats Pachirisu with medicine and Oran Berries, it's on its way to a speedy recovery—just in time to be stolen by Team Rocket, who spotted the cabin! But Staravia found some friendly Wooper to clean the gunk off its wing, and it returns in time to free Pachirisu from Team Rocket's net. Then Buneary and a healthy Pachirisu team up to blast Team Rocket back where they came from. It looks like a happy ending all around, except that they forgot about one Pokémon: poor Gliscor, still struggling up the long road back to the cabin![1]

Episode plot[]

Dawn trains with her pokemon while Ash attempts to find a way to beat Fantina. During this time, he falls asleep. Brock decides to leave to pick up more medical supplies and leaves Dawn and Ash in charge. First things first: bath time. They take time to shower each pokemon, though Ash accidentally uses cold water. After this is breakfast where they have pancakes. But things begin to grow hectic when Pachirisu comes down with a fever. Panicking because they have no supplies, Ash and Dawn begin to blame each other and struggle to bring Brock back. Coming to an agreement to focus on the pokemon instead of their own struggle, Ash and Dawn search for Oran berries, but find none.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket in their balloon, spots a Zapdos and attempt to capture it with their Glue Bazooka. However, they miss it and instead hit the Staravia that Ash sent out to get Brock. Instead, Team Rocket change their target to the Staravia who has glue coating it's wing.

Ash grows worried that neither Brock nor Staravia have returned, and instead sends Glicor to find them. Brock, finishing with his shopping, sees the Gliscor coming and catches it. Sensing something is wrong, Brock rushes off back to the cabin. Ash and Dawn are struggling to figure out what to do, thinking they need to feed it. Just then, Brock rushes in to stop them from messing up any further. He tells them that they need to stop panicking, as that's the last thing you want to do when someone is sick. He says that the first thing to do is diagnose what the issue is, and he discovers that it is a build up of electricity in it's electric sacs, and uses a special device to get rid of the extra electricity and gives it medicine to help regulate it's electricity further. He then shows them that they were checking the wrong places for Oran berries, saying that the ground is too dry, and that they need to find where it's damp. He shows them where to find some. Dawn begins to cry, realizing how badly she failed to help her pokemon, but is comforted by Ash. Elsewhere, Staravia manages to get free with the help of a Whooper.

Outside, Pachirisu is running around and playing when suddenly Team Rocket grabs it. Their true target was Pikachu, but beggars can't be choosers. They try to take it, but Staravia appears and cuts the net. With help from the other Pokemon, Pachirisu uses Discharge and sends Team Rocket blasting off again. Brock then says that they need to learn first aid for their pokemon, and Dawn and Ash agree, knowing the importance of medical knowledge when a doctor is not around. Brock then fixes food for them and they enjoy the rest of the evening. Elsewhere, Gliscor is slowly trudging it's way back to the cabin.

Trivia[]

  • Pokémon Symphonic Medley is used as background music.
  • Professor Oak's Pokémon lecture: Glaceon.
  • Team Rocket seeing a Zapdos from their balloon in this episode may be a reference to Pokémon Platinum, in which all three legendary birds can be found roaming Sinnoh. This was also the first episode to air after the game's Japanese release.
  • Pachirisu becoming ill from having too much electricity is reminiscent of Pikachu's condition from Hoenn Alone!, which is shown in this episode, Get the Show on the Road! and Watt's With Wattson?, which in turn is reminiscent of its cold in Sparks Fly for Magnemite.
  • The rhyming dub title is a pun on "Doc Ock," the nickname of the character Doctor Octopus from the Spider-Man franchise.
  • Dawn reads the title card for this episode.
  • The dub version of the credits showed the former 4Kids logo at the end. The reason for this is unknown, although it may have been an unintentional result of switching the show's credits to the system used for other Cartoon Network shows.
    • This became a running error that later recurred in most of the following season. Only the televised versions are affected; Cartoon Network Video presentations continue to use the original style of credits and are not affected by this.

Mistakes[]

  • While Croagunk is looking at himself in the mirror, his Japanese voice can be heard.
  • During the flashback, the sparks coming off Pikachu's cheeks are colored blue instead of yellow.
  • After Dawn stops crying, her white top extends to the bottom of her shirt.
