There are orange, expandable pouches on its cheeks, and its teeth are wide and flat. A black marking encircles its upper arms and chest, and there are white bands around its chest. Croagunk is a mild and docile Pokémon despite the unnerving noise it makes, and only fights when it has to. But when it does fight, it uses its eerie croaking voice to distract its opponent while stabbing them with its fingers.

Under Brock's ownership, Croagunk takes the place of Misty and Max, pulling Brock away from pretty girls (similar style of Barbie dolls), though more harshly then before. Instead of pulling Brock's ear, Croagunk will use Poison Jab on Brock and then pull him away, seemingly enjoying it, as he laughs during the process.

Many Croagunk appeared in the episode Cream of the Croagunk Crop!, where there was a competition and festival for Pastoria City's mascot, Croagunk.
