===Physiology===
  +
Cottonee is a small round Pokémon that resembles a ball of cotton. It has a fluffy body that is white and very pale green in color. It has a mass of light green fluff covering most of its body. Its face is white with two ovular red eyes; its mouth is not visible, but is likely hidden beneath the cottony layer below its eyes. It has two small green leaf-like arms on either side of its round body which resemble wings.
  +
  +
===Behavior===
  +
Cottonee travel very closely in the wind during their mating period, making them appear like a cloud. They are usually very friendly, and people often see them helping each other. However, when attacked, they will shoot cotton from their bodies to serve as a decoy. When it is raining, they will hide underneath trees so their cotton doesn't get wet and weigh them down. People use their cotton to make pillows and furniture, among other things, so they are prized by many luxury brands.

Cottonee is likely based on a cotton plant or dandelion seed, with traits of a ball of cotton. It also slightly resembles a cloud. It may also take inspiration from a sheep as its cotton resembles wool and its leaves resemble the ears of a lamb.

Cottonee is likely a corruption of the word ''cottony'', or possibly a combination of the words ''cotton'' and ''wee'' (small).

Cottonee (Japanese: モンメン, HepburnMonmen) (KAHT-ton-ee[1]) is a Grass/Fairy-type Generation V Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It is Petilil's counterpart. It was a pure Grass-type in Generation V.

Biology

Physiology

Cottonee is a small round Pokémon that resembles a ball of cotton. It has a fluffy body that is white and very pale green in color. It has a mass of light green fluff covering most of its body. Its face is white with two ovular red eyes; its mouth is not visible, but is likely hidden beneath the cottony layer below its eyes. It has two small green leaf-like arms on either side of its round body which resemble wings.

Behavior

Cottonee travel very closely in the wind during their mating period, making them appear like a cloud. They are usually very friendly, and people often see them helping each other. However, when attacked, they will shoot cotton from their bodies to serve as a decoy. When it is raining, they will hide underneath trees so their cotton doesn't get wet and weigh them down. People use their cotton to make pillows and furniture, among other things, so they are prized by many luxury brands.

Evolution

Cottonee evolves into Whimsicott by use of a Sun Stone.

Pokédex entries

  • Black

When attacked, it escapes by shooting cotton from its body. The cotton serves as a decoy to distract the attacker.

  • White

They go wherever the wind takes them. On rainy days, their bodies are heavier, so they take shelter beneath big trees.

  • Black 2

Perhaps because they feel more at ease in a group, they stick to others they find. They end up looking like a cloud.

  • White 2

Perhaps because they feel more at ease in a group, they stick to others they find. They end up looking like a cloud.

  • X

When attacked, it escapes by shooting cotton from its body. The cotton serves as a decoy to distract the attacker.

  • Y

Perhaps because they feel more at ease in a group, they stick to others they find. They end up looking like a cloud.

  • Omega Ruby

When attacked, it escapes by shooting cotton from its body. The cotton serves as a decoy to distract the attacker.

  • Alpha Sapphire

Perhaps because they feel more at ease in a group, they stick to others they find. They end up looking like a cloud.

  • Sun

When it finds others of its kind, they all stick together. When enough of them have collected, the mass resembles a cumulonimbus cloud.

  • Moon

Pillows and beds stuffed with cotton exhaled by Cottonee are soft and puffy, light and airy—altogether top quality.

  • Ultra Sun

To protect itself, it shoots cotton from its body. When it gets wet in the rain, its cotton grows moist and heavy, and it can’t move as well.

  • Ultra Moon

When attacked, it expels cotton from its body to create a diversion. The cotton it loses grows back in quickly.

  • Sword

It shoots cotton from its body to protect itself. If it gets caught up in hurricane-strength winds, it can get sent to the other side of the Earth.

  • Shield

Weaving together the cotton of both Cottonee and Eldegoss produces exquisite cloth that's highly prized by many luxury brands.

Trivia

  • Cottonee is the fourth Pokémon that is based on a cotton plant, the firsts being Hoppip and its evolutions.

Origin

Cottonee is likely based on a cotton plant or dandelion seed, with traits of a ball of cotton. It also slightly resembles a cloud. It may also take inspiration from a sheep as its cotton resembles wool and its leaves resemble the ears of a lamb.

Etymology

Cottonee is likely a corruption of the word cottony, or possibly a combination of the words cotton and wee (small).
