Chespin' ( is the Japanese: ハリマロン Harimaron ) -type Pokémon that is one of the Grass Starter Pokémon in the Kalos region from the Pokémon X and Y.
Chespin seems to resemble a tree- the head is compared as leaves and the body the lower part of the tree. It has a tough shell covering its head and back.
Despite having a curious nature that tends to get it in trouble, Chespin keeps an optimistic outlook and doesn't worry about small details.
Chespin can be evolved into
Quilladin starting at level 16, and into Chesnaught starting at level 36.
The quills on its head are usually soft. When it flexes them, the points become so hard and sharp that they can pierce rock.
Such a thick shell of wood covers its head and back that even a direct hit from a truck wouldn't faze it.
Chespin is the first Grass-type starter Pokémon that is not reptile-based but based on a mammal, in this case a rodent or a marsupial. Judging by its Japanese, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Korean name, it appears to be based on a porcupine.
Chespin bears a resemblance to the Generation V starter Oshawott.
Chespin's Evolution line is based off the warrior class in various RPG games.
Chespin is the first and so far only Grass-type starter Pokémon to not have been captured by Ash.
Chespin's name comes from the animal
porcupine and the nut chestnut.
