Bruno was a villain. He challenged Red to a Pokémon battle in a remote area and fought him evenly, defeating Red's Poli and injuring his Pikachu and Gyarados. Then his comrades Agatha and Lorelei offered a position on the Elite Four to Red for his battling skills, but Red refused so Lorelei decided freeze him using her expanding ice cuffs. Many of Bruno's Machop were seen to decoy Pewter City and keep Brock at bay before stealing the Gym Badge Brock gives out to trainers that defeat him at his Gym. Later, the Elite Four were at Cerise island unleashing the final part of their plan: to destroy humanity.

[[File:Surge_and_Bill_face_off_against_Bruno.png|thumb|Bruno vs Lt.Surge and Bill.]]
  +
Bill and Lt.Surge encountered Bruno near an acidic river, with his two Onix acting as bridges. The battle took place with Bruno standing on one Onix, and his opponents standing on the other. When Yellow and Blaine came along it also revealed that Bruno put up a barrier to stop any intruders from entering so a fair battle could be fought.Bill and Lt. Surge eventually gained the upper hand by combining Exeggute's Egg Bomb with Electrode's Explosion to make the Onix collapse and make them all fall but, Lt. Surge had his Magneton create to keep them in the air. It was then revealed that Bruno really used his Hitmonlee's legs to keep him hanging on, then Agatha's mind-controlling armbands then forced him to try and drag Surge down to the acid, only to be saved by a stranger.Red then came, revealed himself, and defeated Bruno.

Ash and Brock were inspired by Bruno and sought him out, but when he told them there was no secret to train Pokémon, they were dissapointed. When Ash and Piakchu were about to be attacked by Onix, Bruno saved them and tried to reason with the Onix, getting a Sandlash from its hide. He caught him and told Ash, Brock and Misty the Pokémon need to be bonded to have a greater success in battles.

Adventures

Surge and Bill face off against Bruno

Bruno vs Lt.Surge and Bill.

When Ash and Piakchu were about to be attacked by Onix, Bruno saved them and tried to reason with the Onix, getting a Sandlash from its hide. He caught him and told Ash, Brock and Misty the Pokémon need to be bonded to have a greater success in battles.
