Basic Stage is the first form of a Pokémon. Such as Starly or Lillipup, they are not very strong and usually evolve in the teens if they are a 3-part evolution. They are very small, most of them you can catch in the first three or four routes in each game. If they are Sinnoh, and you are playing Black or White, they will most likely appear on the last routes of the game. Some like Pichu, need all happiness to evolve. When you challenge Pokémon and start with a Basic Stage Pokémon, the wild Pokémon will most likely not run.
