Barry's Empoleon is a very powerful Pokémon Barry caught as a Piplup when starting his journey in Sinnoh. Empoleon seems to be in a sort of "ashamed" of Barry when he acts foolish. Empoleon is almost always out of it's Poké Ball, as Barry and his Empoleon have a relationship similar to the one between Ash ans his Pikachu. It is Barry's main Pokémon he uses for battles and other events. When Barry met Ash, he challenged Ash to a battle with him and his Empoleon and Ash's Pikachu, which he lost.
