Near Vertress City, after Ash and his friends end up making a wrong choice of climbing over boulders and fell off the cliff to their death, they're being saved by a boy name Virgil who has an Eevee and an Espeon. Apparently, he's one of the Pokemon Rescue Sqaud and his team is called Team Eevee with a whole evolved forms of Eevees. When Virgil's brother Davey, who has a Stoutland were assigned by their father Jeff, took off to inspect the dam that has been frozen, and tried to evacutate the workers, he's now trapped inside the control center when a wild Cryogonal appeared in the area. Now it's up to Ash and co. to help Virgil and the Pokemon Rescue Squad's Team Eevee to save his brother from a group of Cryogonals when they froze up the dam.
This episode, also focusing on Eevee and its evolutions, aired less than a week after the announcement of this tournament.
This episode holds the record for the most amount of Pokédex entries in a single episode, that being nine. The scanned Pokémon were Eevee, its evolutions (7 at time, excluding the Generation VI's Sylveon), and Cryogonal.
This is the second episode in a row when it has the most amount of Pokedex entries since BW065: Evolution Exchange Excitement!, that contains Shelmet, Karrablast, Klink, Klinklang, Accelgor, and Escavalier.
The Pokemon Rescue squad has some links towards the rescue team International Rescue of the famous Thunderbirds series:
They both are rescue teams that help those who need it
While the sons go on their missions, the father stays behind and leads
The leader's (and father's) name is Jeff
One of the sons are called Virgil
Virgil's Eevee is confirmed Female when he said this Eevee's a girl.
This is the second time Ash looked up Umbreon on the Pokedex since BW004: The Battle Club and Tepig's Choice!, when Ash is mistaken Tepig as an Umbreon due to its covered dirt and thinness when its abandoned by Shamus. For now, he meets a real one.
