Pokémon: BW Rival Destinies

Once again, the time has finally come. After being denied twice, Ash finally gets his Gym Battle with Clay since he gave him a bag of Revival Herbs he requested. As a surprise, the Gym battlefield is located underground. Will Ash be able to beat the Gym Leader who calls himself the "King of the Mines"? And what is up with Roggenrola since he begins to glow while battling his Excadrill?

  • The Japanese version of "Who's that Pokémon?" returns.
  • The animation for when a Pokémon evolves is slightly modified in this episode. The glowing is now a darker blue and the lines surrounding the Pokémon are blue instead of a yellow-white color.
  • Professor Oak's Live Caster: Golett
  • Who's That Pokemon?: Excadrill (Japan), Krokorok (U.S.)
  • This is the third episode in the entire Best Wishes Saga that Pikachu sat out a Gym Battle, and for good reason: since Clay used Ground-Types, so Pikachu's Electric type attacks won't do any damage.
  • This is the second time Ash battled a Krokorok since BW020: Dancing With the Ducklett Trio! when the Sunglasses Krokorok now after evolved during a battle against his #1 rival Ash's Pikachu. Until 47 episodes later in the end, when he felt sad after losing to Pikachu without getting blasted off as Ash tells Krokorok to come along with the group as his new Pokemon indeed.
  • This is the second time Ash's Oshawott battled a Palpitoad in BW035: Facing Fear With Eyes Wide Open! as Ash catches him with his Poke ball when he's defeated, but this time he lost.
  • This is the second time a Palpitoad gets hit by Attract. The first is BW052: Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym! when Ash's Palpitoad get hit by Elesa's Emolga's Attract, and Clay's Palpitoad gets hit by Ash's Snivy's Attract.
  • Clay's Palpitoad is confirmed to be male as well as Ash's.
  • This is the second time Ash battled an Excadrill since BW044: The Club Battle Finale: A Heroes Outcome! during the battle tournament in Nimbasa Town with his Pikachu against Iris' Excadrill because he's a Ground/Steel type so electric type moves won't work and lost as his Snivy wound up losing to Clay's Excadrill, but when Ash sends out his Roggenrola with his toughness ability called Sturdy which now evolved into Boldore, he wins the final match which now earns him the Quake Badge.
  • Ed Paul is the voice of the referee.
