Synopsis

With the Don Battle tournament in Nimbasa Town behind them Ash and co. head out to Nimbasa City (again). They soon encounter Meowth, with no sign of Jessie or James. He reveals that he was fired from Team Rocket and was all alone. While going to their destination along with Meowth, they soon come across a rogue Scrafty and kidnap Iris' Axew and took him through the woods. As they chase after them, they see an abandoned shack in the valley where Scrafty takes Axew inside holding him hostage. How can our heroes get Axew back in this hostage situation? And what kind of Pokemon that took Scrafty's home away?

Plot

As the gang eats lunch, Axew and Tepig see something unusual. The gang comes and they see a weird thing - a battered Team Rocket's Mewoth, but without Jessie and James. As Cilan and Iris tend his wounds, he awakes, quite suprised. He tells them he got fired, as the last job he made failed, and got him fired. Jessie and James abandoned him and Meowth traveled to here. Iris thinks they should leave him alone, but Ash thinks he should travel with them - he is no longer a member of Team Rocket. Mewoth agrees to, even if Pikachu senses something fishy.

As they travel near a mountain landslide, a Pokemon catches Iris' Axew and runs to a lodge. It is a Scrafty. Scrafty puts Axew on a table, who uses Dragon Rage, smashing the window. Ash and Iris go to get Axew, but with Mewoth stops them, as he and Pikachu hear that Scrafty will hurt Axew. Mewoth goes to negotiate, and the result is that he wants anyone to battle him. Mewoth thinks Ash should send his Scraggy, as he has an idea. Ash goes up and Meowth speaks with Scrafty, to teach Scraggy some new moves. Before, however, Scraggy goes to attack Mewoth, but Ash says Mewoth changed. Scrafty teaches him how to use Jump Kick, while Ash sees Axew has been tied inside. Meanwhile, Jessie and James go to the Nimbasa Underground, captioning a picture of the map of the Underground, seeing a computer controls the trains and placing a device on the wall of the Underground.

Ash and Mewoth return to Iris and Cilan. Ash has an idea - he sends Snivy (who attacks Meowth, but Ash tells her he changed) and while Mewoth chats with Scrafty, he'll get Axew. As Mewoth chats with Scrafty (who goes out of the lodge), Snivy pulls Axew up with Vine Whip. Mewoth goes away and Scrafty is electrocuted with Pikachu's Thunderbolt. Scrafty reveals his face and goes to attack, but is hurt once more. Afterwards, Scrafty begs them to fight, so Ash sends Tepig. Scrafty bashes his head, though Tepig evades and uses Ember. Scrafty goes to use Focus Blast, but Tepig dodges and attacks with Fire Charge, defeating it.

Scrafty cries, as it wanted to take its home back. Scrafty takes them to the site where a Mandibuzz resides. Mandibuzz uses Shadow Ball, marking that she does not want them near. Scraggy goes in - Mandibuzz goes to peck it, but misses and bashes her head to the stone. Scraggy uses Jump Kick, defeating her. Mandibuzz cries as well, as she was kicked out by another when she ate the apples. She takes them to the nest, where the other Mandibuzz goes to attack. Mewoth persudaes the other Mandibuzz to allow the first one to come back, as Mandibuzz offered apples. Everyone is happy, so at the end, Iris is quite amazed and goes to capture Meowth, but Mewoth goes out just in time, as he prefers to stay out than into. Jessie and James see the path out of the Underground, continuing their plans.

Trivia

  • Meowth was never captured, and even Iris was unable to catch it.
  • For the first time in 14 seasons, Meowth was kicked out of Team Rocket. But four episodes later, it turned out that Meowth was lying the whole time.
  • This is the second time in a row when a main character's Pokemon learned a third new move other than two. First was Axew learning Outrage in the last episode while Scraggy learns Hi Jump Kick.
  • From this episode until Crisis from the Underground Up!, Meowth acts like his comical self.
  • Professor Oak's Live Caster: Timburr
  • Who's That Pokemon?: Scrafty (US)
  • Cilan saying "confession is good for the heart" it might be a reference to the popular phrase "confession is good for the soul".
  • The only reason why that Scrafty looks different from the Pokedex picture is because that loose skin around its neck is used as a hood to hide its face. That is why he's called the Hoodlum Pokemon.

Quotes

Meowth: Ok! We can see that Axew's unharmed, but we need to know who you want to battle against before we can help you. We also need to know why you want to battle in the first place.

Scrafty: Tee-Tee-Tee. Scraf-Scraf-ty!

While ignoring Meowth's question, Ash and Pikachu appeared on the cliff.

Ash: There's Axew! Through that window.

Pikachu: Pi-ka!

As they quickly hide before Scrafty spotted them.

Ash: I think we can get Axew out of there.

Pikachu: Pi-ka.

Ash: Let's head back for now.

Pikachu: Pi-ka-chu.

As they head back to inform the others.

Meowth: Let's get this straight, I do not want to be anybody's Pokemon. And no twerps ever going to catch me, see?

Iris: Okay, sorry.

Meowth: Alright, but even so, I'm going to help you lugs

Cilan: confession is good for the heart
