Team Rocket vs. Team Plasma (Part 1) (Japanese: ロケット団VSプラズマ団！（前編）) was supposed to be the 23rd episode of Pokémon: Black & White.
Giovanni arrives in Unova and assembles his team at the Desert Resort to obtain the Meteonite from the Relic Castle. Jessie fires a gun powered by the meteorite stolen from Nacrene City which activates the Meteonite. Ash and his friends arrive with Looker and Professor Juniper and get into Team Rocket's dealings undercover. However, Team Plasma appears on the scene as well, and they too have their sights set on the Meteonite.
Giovanni arrives at the Desert Resort in his jet plane. As he walks out of the plane, he is greeted by a small army of his operatives, including Jessie, James, Meowth, Pierce, and Dr. Zager. When he asks if preparations have been completed, they tell him that the unit had been hard at work excavating the Relic Castle where the Meteonite is, which is what created the problem with the Venipede in Castelia City. Giovanni determines that the mission can now enter it's deciding phase.
Ash, Iris and Cilan are flying through the Desert Resort in a helicopter flown by Professor Juniper and Officer Jenny when they suddenly get blasted out of the sky by a Hyper Beam attack. The attack was fired by a Liepard belonging to three members of Team Plasma, who have been keeping tabs on Team Rocket's actions and plan on stealing the Meteonite from themselves, and they don’t want anyone else getting involved.
At Relic Castle, Giovanni, Jessie, James, Meowth, Pierce and Dr. Zager enter the Meteonite chamber. As part of the ritual to bring the Meteonite out from underneath the earth, James hacks into a code within the stolen data and Jessie fires a gun powered by Dream Energy flowing within the Nacrene City meteorite that sends tremors through the earth and it even reaches Ash and co. by their downed helicopter. Officer Jenny deems the situation too dangerous for the kids and tells them to head back to Castelia City, and as they promised they’d do at the end of the previous episode if this happened, they obey her request.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket obtains the Meteonite, which appears on a pedestal atop a spiral staircase is glowing like the sun. Giovanni declares that the Meteonite's true form is, in fact, an artificial sun. Ash and his friends are trekking through the desert but get sidetracked by the sunglasses-wearing Krokorok, who wants to finish his battle with Pikachu. Pikachu sends him blasting off again, but is hurt in the process, leaving Ash, Iris and Cilan in a bad situation and unable to continue on.
Professor Juniper and Officer Jenny, meanwhile, are headed toward the Relic Castle when they encounter Looker in a jeep, who says that he’s on the trail of a secret criminal organization operating in Unova. At Relic Castle, Looker recognizes Team Rocket as they come out, but confirms they're not the group he’s after. Juniper is surprised to see the Meteonite being loaded onto Team Rocket's aircraft. Team Rocket gets away, with Looker, Jenny and Juniper pursuing them toward Castelia City. They run into Ash, Iris and Cilan and are able to give them a lift. Team Plasma is also watching Team Rocket’s aircrafts, and prepare to launch their own operation.
While riding back to the city, Professor Juniper explains to the others that the Meteonite was something ancient people used as a source of light when the sun was blocked out by a volcanic smoke long ago, and it alters the flow of energy through the weather. Used the wrong way, the energy it emits could prove disastrous for the entire planet. When back at Castelia City, the heroes see Team Rocket land at a building where a masquerade party is being held for wealthy and important people of Unova who hold a lot of business and political influence. Looker, Juniper and Cilan infiltrate the party, while Ash and Iris w/ Pikachu and Axew sneak through the lower floors of the building to find the Meteonite. The three Team Plasma agents have also infiltrated the party and are awaiting their chance.
Team Rocket crashes the party and Giovanni starts making a big demonstration of the Meteonite and what it can do, with the goal being to ransom control over Unova or else he sets the Meteonite's energy-altering powers upon the region. When Ash and Iris learn that the Meteonite is encased and on the top floor, they decide that they need to cut the power of the building, which Pikachu does, but the action takes a lot out of him because of the impact that the Meteonite is having on his energy. Iris takes Pikachu out of the building, while on the upper floor, the Meteonite shines like a sun and lights up the darkened room, which only benefits Giovanni’s presentation and renders Pikachu’s actions meaningless. Will Team Rocket successfully take over Unova, or will Team Plasma take the Meteonite for their own uses first?
This episode got postponed indefinitely because of Great East Japan Earthquake.
