While having lunch on the way to the next city, Cilan discovers that all the food he prepared has been stolen. The group discovers that a Snivy has stolen the food and Ash as always attempts to capture it. He tries to weaken it with Pikachu, but the Snivy (which is female) uses Attract, making Pikachu unable to fight her. Ash sends out Pidove to track the Snivy down, just as she comes across Team Rocket.Snivy using Attract.
Jessie tries to capture her, but fails when Snivy did a stylish backflip to avoid Jessies Pokeball. Pidove finds the Snivy and signals Ash who tries to use Oshawatt and then later Tepig, but they are also hit by the Attract attack eventually making Ash realize that they are Male as well. Ash finally uses Pidove with a little hope, to his surprise his Pidove is also Female hence unaffected by the Attract. As Ash weakens it, he finally captures Snivy and adds her to his team.
Trivia
This episode reveals the most genders of any main character's Pokemon, with Ash's Snivy, Pidove, Tepig and Oshawott having their genders revealed in this episode (Oshawott and Tepig are male while Snivy and Pidove are female).
This is also the first episode since his travels in Johto that Ash has caught all three starter Pokemon from the same region. In Johto are: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. And in Unova are: Oshawott, Tepig, and Snivy.
This is the first Best Wishes episode not to debut any new Pokémon.
Ash's Snivy has a different voice actor from Trip's Snivy due to difference in gender (Trip's Snivy, later a Servine is male while Ash's Snivy is female).
