The Azure Flute is an event-exclusive item required to encounter Arceus. It was included in the code for Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, but was never distributed for those games. It was first made officially available with the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus; it was then added to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl in March 2022.

Acquisition and usage[]

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, once the player completes the main mission "Seeking the Remaining Plates", their Celestica Flute will transform into the Azure Flute. The Azure Flute will still allow the player to summon Ride Pokémon. After the player completes the Hisui Pokédex, they can play the Azure Flute on the dais at the Temple of Sinnoh to encounter Arceus. After obtaining Arceus, returning to the dais will allow the player to rematch Arceus, Dialga, or Palkia.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, if the player has become the Pokémon Champion and has also obtained Arceus in Legends: Arceus on the same Nintendo Switch profile, the Azure Flute will be present in the player's room in their house in Sandgem Town. Bringing the Azure Flute to the Spear Pillar will trigger a sequence where the player can encounter Arceus. If the player defeats Arceus or runs away from the battle, they can leave and return to the Spear Pillar and play the Azure Flute again to repeat the encounter. After obtaining Arceus, the flute will become unplayable; using it will present the message "The Azure Flute echoed hollowly."

Trivia[]

  • The Azure Flute's design resembles an ocarina, a musical instrument. It also resembles a human heart that has been colored purple.
