Azalea Town (ヒワダタウン Hiwada Town) is a small, isolated town located on the southern peninsula of the Johto region. The town is best known for being the residence of Kurt, a custom Poké Ball creator who makes Poké Balls out of apricorns. He lives in the northwest of the town on the east edge of Ilex Forest. Azalea Town features other notable locations as well, such as the Slowpoke Well. The Gym Leader of the town is Bugsy, a Bug-type trainer. His Pokemon include Metapod, Kakuna, and Scyther. The player's rival also appears at the gate to Ilex Forest, and a battle with him is required to pass. Azalea Town is also the only place at which Charcoal can be purchased. It is the only town that has a gym and a gym leader in it, if not including Cinnabar Island, due to one of its Japanese names ending in "Town".

Kurt's House
Kurt lives in a house in the northwest corner of Azalea Town. He resides there with his granddaughter Maisy, and her favorite Pokémon, Slowpoke. There is a Apricorn tree located next to his house that grows Wht Apricorns daily.
Kurt specializes in making custom Poké Balls specifically designed to work more effectively against specific types of Pokémon. The ball that Kurt makes depends on the Apricorn that is given to Kurt by Trainers.
When entering Kurt's house for the first time, he will quickly run out after saying something about going to the Slowpoke Well. He will defeat the grunt at the entrance, then will fall into the well and injure his back. After Kurt is injured while trying to stop Team Rocket, the player has to defeat the Grunts and rescue the kidnapped Slowpoke.
Here is a complete list of the Poke Balls that he is capable of making and the Apricorns needed for making the Poke Ball:

Charcoal Kiln
Near the gym is a small house that houses the Pokémon world's only Charcoal kiln. The kiln is owned by a family that handles not only the production of the Charcoal, but also the collection of the necessary materials. To acquire the wood necessary for the Charcoal, the family uses a Farfetch'd to cut down trees in Ilex Forest. The wood is then treated in the kiln and turned into Charcoal, which is then sold at the local Poké Mart, making Charcoal the only type-enhancing held item that can be freely purchased, albeit at a high price.

Azalea Town Gym
The Azalea Town Gym is the official gym of Azalea Town. It is based mainly on Bug-Type Pokemon. The Gym Leader is Bugsy. Trainers can get the Hive Badge after defeating Bugsy.
In the Anime
The only anime appearance of Bugsy and his gym came in Gettin' the Bugs Out. The gym stron
gly resembles a forest in appearance, with trees and grass growing everywhere. Bugsy lets all of his Pokémon roam free in the gym, much to Misty's chagrin.
Ash felt confident that his Cyndaquil would be able to easily defeat Bugsy and his Pokémon, but Cyndaquil needed to get warmed up before it was able to use its Fire-type attacks. In the meantime, Ash used his Chikorita and Pikachu to defeat Bugsy's Pokémon. When Ash was down to Cyndaquil, the young Pokémon was able to warm its flame up in time and defeat Bugsy's Scyther.
In the Games
In Gold, Silver and Crystal
In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, the Azalea Gym is a giant forest maze. Trainers such as Twins and Bug Catchers hide around every corner, ready to spring upon Trainers. Bugsy is located in the middle of the maze, where he can be challenged to earn the Hive Badge.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver
In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, many aesthetic changes have been made to the Azalea Gym, including a new feature that lets the player ride on spider-shaped karts that travel across different areas of the gym. The player must travel on the correct spider to advance through the gym. If the player gets on the wrong spider, however, they will travel to a different area where they must battle a Trainer.
