[edit] Appearance

Articuno is a large bird with blue plumage. Its coloring is darkest on its head crest and long, streaming tail. Its body is colored sky-blue, while growing lighter on its front. Its most distinctive trait is its large wings, which are said to be made of ice. In the Second Pokemon Movie Articuno also played a major role because only the chosen one (Ash) could place its power orb on the altar to end the war of the three legendary birds.

[edit] Anime

Articuno appears in the Anime when a boy Todd, who loves to take pictures, take pictures of Articuno in the episode Freeze Frame.

Articuno appear again and is a friend of the Frontier Brains, Factory Head Noland or Noland in the episode Numero Uno Articuno. Noland became Articuno's friend when he save the injured Articuno on his plane. Ash attempted to get the Knowledge Symbol by defeating Articuno, which obey Noland's command, and he did it.

[edit] In Games

[edit] First Generation

There is only one in Red/Blue/Yellow versions. It waits on the lowest level of the Seafoam Islands for a worthy challenger.

[edit] Second Generation

The only way to get one in Gold/Silver/Crystal is to trade one from a First Generation version.

[edit] XD

There is only one in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. After catching or killing Shadow Lugia, his lineup will include shadow versions of all three birds. After you purify it, you can make it learn its normal moves.

[edit] Fourth generation

The only way to obtain one in Diamond/Pearl is to migrate one from a GBA version through Pal Park. In Platinum, Articuno, along with Zapdos and Moltres roam Sinnoh. To catch them is like catching Mespirit and Cresselia: approaching them carefully. The three are at Lv. 60.

[edit] Origins

Articuno's name is a cross of the words arctic and uno, the Spanish word for one. The second part of its name indicates that it is the first in the series of Kanto's Legendary Birds.

Its Japanese name is simply Freezer, "one that freezes".
