Angie

Aoi (アオイ Aoi) is a girl who lives in the Sinnoh Region. She was first seen in the episode, Camping It Up!, when Ash and friends attended a Week-Long Summer School program for Pokémon Trainers. She initially serves as a rival for Ash; however, she develops a crush on, and finally falls for at him, later on.

Personality

"There's nothing ruder than a guy who ignores girls first!"

- Angie yelling at Ash while fighting over a random Poké Ball.

"Wait a minute, are you telling me that you're a girl?!"

- Ash exclaiming after being pointed out that Angie is a girl.

Angie is a girl who hates to be looked downed on or looked upon as weak. She is very confident with her skill, which often leads to increasingly embarrassing situations. She dresses up in boyish clothing, causing Ash to mistake her as a boy, until she points out that she's a girl while fighting with him for Monferno's Pokeball. She has short, uncombed light green hair. She is mostly seen wearing an over-sized, long sleeve green shirt with a green collar, with green sweat pants with a single white stripe coming down the side of her legs.

A way that she showed her nature was when she would constantly get into fights with Ash (most notably, during the beginning of the Summer Academy).

A way that she showed her confident side was when she tested Monferno by telling it to try to hit her with Ember and Mach Punch, after witnessing Ash perform a similar strategy on his Raichu. While Monferno attacked, she would dodge the practice attacks and taunt it, sparking frustration in the Pokemon; the result was that its skill grew, Angie allowing it to hit her with it's attacks once it trusted her.

As time went on, Angie began to grow closer to Ash, eventually beginning to crush on him; that Ash saved her life twice—during the time they were up against the demon girl in Ghoul Daze, and again as she fell down in a cave during One Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team—helped greatly with this fact.

In 'If the Scarf Fits, Wear It!', Angie is seen once again, helping out in her family's Day Care Center in Solaceon Town while her parents are out of town, her Shinx alongside. Her feelings for Ash have grown over the time since the Academy, something that is not missed by her parents, who support the possible relationship, even going so far as to tease their daughter by saying Angie and Ash should "get married, and take over the family business!" (Angie, understandably, gets very flustered with this statement.)

Trivia

• It has been hinted by some fans that Angie developed a crush on Ash when he saved her from falling. Although the crush was merely hinted in the first episodes, when Ash grabbed her hand, keeping her from being pulled into the rumored Nether-World by a demon girl; Angie told him to let go before he got pulled in with her, to which Ash replied, "I'll never let go, even if that means forever!" stunning Angie, when she repeated the last word "Forever?" In the episode, 'If the Scarf Fits, Wear It!', in which Ash and friends help Angie to catch a very hungry Lickilicky running around Solaceon Town, at the end of the episode as Ash and the others are leaving, Angie's parents verify her crush, by stating quite a few things about her behavior since trainer school, among other things, leading to higher and higher levels of embarrassment that has her flustered at her parents, shouting, "AH! You guys can't just go saying things like that!!", at which point Ash sneezes inexplicably.
