The gang is waiting in a long line for the famous bakery. May promises to Ash it will be worth waiting, but they spot an Arcanine running. It jumps across the crowd with relative ease, dazzling May. Arcanine goes away, while they spot none other than Drew and Flygon going after it as well. Flygon uses Flamethrower, but misses. Arcanine uses Heat Wave, but Flygon dodges. Arcanine uses ExtremeSpeed, running away quickly. Drew insults her by telling her "only an amateur would ask a question like that". Drew tells them he came to Kanto for winning the Grand Festival, showing his first ribbon. Drew runs away to get the Arcanine. The gang goes as well, helping May to capture it as well. Team Rocket spot them (working as bakers), but the boss (who looks a lot like the one they worked at Ever Grande City) yells them to get back to work.

Ash and May are waiting on line outside a popular bakery when an Arcanine runs past. May wants to catch it, but she sees that Drew is chasing it too! Thanks to Extremespeed, Arcanine easily escapes. May catches up to it while it's eating and sends out Combusken, but Arcanine outruns her Pokemon. So Ash and his friends stop to ask a woodsman about Arcanine and he points them to locations where it sometimes appears--but he also told Drew the same information about an hour ago.

Mudkip searches, so the gang follows them. Soon, it fells it. Arcanine is shown to be eating berries, so May sends Combusken to battle it. Combusken charges to get it while it runs. Still, Arcanine uses ExtremeSpeed, so it goes away. Brock decides they need to learn about it before capturing it. They go to a woodcutter and ask him about Arcanine. The woodcutter tells them a man with a Flygon asked the same question - it was Drew, so he decides to tell May and her friends about it as well. Team Rocket is delivering the cakes, while Jessie and James taste a portion of cake. They begin to be greedy and take larger portions. Later, the cake is ruined, so the boss wants it. The boss comes and sees the cake inside Wobbuffet's mouth. Naturally, the boss kicks them and fires them.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket has been fired from the bakery for eating the merchandise and a combination of Wobbuffet and hunger leads them to a Pecha grove. Ash and his friends are waiting in the grove; when Arcanine shows up, they send it towards May and Squirtle. Arcanine uses Roar on Squirtle and May sends out Munchlax to use Metronome. Metronome gives Munchlax Extremespeed, speed it uses to eat all the Pecha berries. By the time Team Rocket arrives, the trees have been picked clean! They do spot Arcanine, however, and decide to nab it for the boss.
+
The woodcutter tells them Arcanine lived in mountains, but lately he saw it often. He noticed it goes to same locations day per day. They start at the spring, where Arcanine should drink water. May suspects Drew took it already, but Brock tells her he should be battling it already, due to its power. Ash's stomach growls, so May tells him he needs to stop it. So, they have a lunch break, though Arcanine drinks water. May spots it, so Arcanine runs away. Team Rocket is hungry, too, blaming each other for eating the cake. Still, Wobbuffet comes with some berries as food, but eats all of them, much to Team Rocket's anger.

May and Drew again run into each other on a high ledge and see Arcanine run off again. Irate, May challenges Drew to see who gets Arcanine and Drew's Flygon quickly defeats May's Squirtle. Both Coordinators chase Arcanine anyway only to find it feeding Pecha berries to its young Growlithe.
+
The gang comes to woods where the berries are. Brock has made a plan - May and Max will wait for it on north side, while Ash and him on south side, so they are bound to encounter it. Ash sends Corphish, Brock Mudkip and May Squirtle. Everyone waits, so Arcanine appears - Corphish uses Bubble Beam, so Arcanine runs away. Mudkip uses Water Gun, so Arcanine runs towards May and Max. May is prepared, but Squirtle isn't - it sleeps. May yells at it, so wakes up and goes to Arcanine. Arcanine roars, so Mudkip is sent to its Poké Ball. As a replacement, May sends Munchlax to use Metronome. Metronome turns to ExtremeSpeed, so Munchlax is near Arcanine. May orders to jump on it, but Munchlax speeds up - it collects the berries and eats them. Once again, Arcanine runs away.

Team Rocket kidnaps Arcanine and the Growlithe, but May and Drew team up to free them and defeat Team Rocket. May and Drew then decide not to break up Arcanine's family and they let it go on its way. Drew goes on his way too, but not before he tells May to try the Pokemon Contest in Saffron City. Excited, our heroes set their sights on their next destination!

Team Rocket goes downwards a mountain for the berries. Wobbuffet takes them to the place with the berries, but as Munchlax ate the berries, there are no left. Still, they spot Arcanine running, so Meowth tells Jessie and James boss would sleep near Arcanine when he has cold. The gang came atop the mountain - it is their last chance, as Arcanine goes here. Arcanine appears, so May goes to battle it, but instead, Drew comes. Still, Arcanine jumps and runs away. May is annoyed and challenges Drew to a battle. Squirtle starts by tackling, but Flygon flies. Flygon uses Steel Wing, so Squirtle counters with Bubble, but Flygon evades and attacks Squirtle, making it cry. Drew climbs up, and so do the others, but see that there is nothing up.

However, they spot it, feeding the baby Growlithe. However, the Growlithe are taken by Team Rocket. The gang demands them free, so Arcanine goes to free them, though it is taken by Team Rocket as well. Team Rocket goes away, though Flygon flies and uses Steel Wing, cutting the balloon. The gang comes to the site, so Ash and Brock go to send their Pokémon, but May and Drew decide to finish this, since they are the ones starting this. Flygon cuts the net using Steel Wing, setting Arcanine and the Growlithe free. James sends Cacnea, who uses Pin Missile, but is negated by Squirtle's Bubble. Jessie sends Dustox, who uses Poison Sting, but is canceled by Flygon's Flamethrower.

Cacnea uses Sandstorm, pushing Squirtle away, but Flygon stands to protect it. Squrtile jumps on Flygon, so Flygon flies and goes down. Squrtile goes to tackle and Flygon uses Steel Wing, pushing the Pokémon to the balloon. Team Rocket is blasted off by Water Gun and Flamethrower. Later, May decides Drew should capture it, but Drew admits he will not, as he will separate Arcanine and the baby Growlithe, so the Pokémon go away. At the end of the day, before Drew tells goodbye, he tells May there is a Contest at Saffron City. He will not enter, as he needs to find another Pokémon, so he goes away. So, the gang's new destination is Saffron City.
