Synopsis
The gang stops for lunch while they continue towards Petalburg City. May wonders which Pokémon Ash is going to choose to battle Norman, but Ash thinks it does not matter. Max is being sarcastic, as all his Pokémon have eaten all the food. Treecko is missing, but Pikachu points him on the tree, tinking of something. Ash tries to talk to him, but with little success. Corphish goes up (knocking Ash from the tree), but even he is not able to do anything and falls down as well.
A Loudred is heard. It is angry, knocking the other Pokémon out and the stuff as well. A man comes to stop it, but Loudred pushes him. He jumps on it, calming the Loudred down. Loudred sleeps, while the man and Ash discuss about the badges - they are both qualifiers for Hoenn Leauge. The man introduces himself as Guy, while the gang does so as well. Guy apologises for the trouble Loudred caused and says it has mind of its own, while Ash (thinking of Treecko) states that Loudred's not the only one... Max thinks the same way about May, so May goes to hit him, but realizes Guy's nearby, so she stops the attack.
Ash challenges Guy to a battle, thinking it might be the end of Loudred's problems. Ash is going to pick a Pokémon, but Treecko appears to be the one Ash will choose. Treecko starts with Quick Attack, but with little effect, so Loudred uses Stomp, stopping Treecko. Treecko uses Bullet Seed, releasing himself. Loudred uses Supersonic, hurting Treecko. Loudred uses Earthquake, but Treecko jumps and uses Pound, knocking Loudred out on a tree. Both Pokemon evolve - Treecko into Grovyle and Loudred into Exploud. Grovyle uses Leaf Blade to get a branch.
Grovyle uses Leaf Blade. Guy orders Exploud to dodge, but Exploud does not listen and instead uses Hyper Voice. Exploud gets angry and out of control, destroying everything, so Grovyle uses Bullet Seed, however with no effect. Grovyle uses Quick Attack, but Exploud stops the attack. Team Rocket pity themselves when they lost the "twirps" and have gotten no sleep, either. Jessie goes mad, but stops herself on a cliff. Team Rocket look a Pokémon down and Meowth identifies it is an Exploud. When Meowth mentions that Exploud is evolved form of Loudred, Team Rocket makes flashbacks where they encountered Loudreds. Jessie and James go away, knowing it is too powerful for them to catch. However, Meowth tells them that if Exploud was at their boss, he would have his time organized, so Jessie and James are convinced to capture it.
The gang searches for Exploud and while Grovyle goes to look after it, Ash mistakes him to be tired, but Grovyle becomes stubborn as well. Guy asks when Pokémon changes, does his personality change as well, to which Brock agrees. Guy makes a flashback when he had Whismur as a Starter Pokémon and when it evolved into Loudred, his fears were banished, but became more stubborn as well. James fires some caps to stuck into Exploud's holes and succeeds. Next thing James captures Exploud using a net. Exploud, however, blows the caps and releases himself, blasting Team Rocket immidiately. Grovyle and the gang hears Exploud and goes after it.
Grovyle quickly finds Exploud and when the sun shines, the battle starts. Exploud uses Stomp, but misses, so Grovyle pounds Exploud. Exploud uses Supersonic, hitting Grovyle. Grovyle jumps and uses Bullet Seed, hitting Exploud. The gang arrives and Exploud stands up. Grovyle uses Leaf Blade, and ignoring Guy's orders, hurts itself. Grovyle uses Leaf Blade, but Exploud stops the attack. Grovyle uses Pound, hitting Exploud. Guy is annoyed and commands Exploud, but Exploud still does not listen. Team Rocket changed their plan, capping Exploud's holes, but this time the plugs will follow Exploud. Guy sees Team Rocket and quickly stops the caps from reaching Exploud. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to stop the plugs.
Team Rocket are annoyed for Ash to use Pikachu and begin to chant, but Ash stops them and Pikachu uses Thunder and Exploud Supersonic to blast them off. Exploud gives hand to Guy, allowing him to be his trainer. Guy thanks Ash, so Ash thinks they should resume the battle. Exploud and Grovyle clash, resuming the battle.
