Ash and friends are eating lunch in the woods when they notice that Treecko has wandered off. After failing to convince the Grass-type to come down from a tree, lunch is disrupted by a rampaging Loudred. Its Trainer, Guy, finally catches up with his Pokemon and makes it stop.

[[Ash]] tries to talk to him, but with little success. [[Ash's Corphish|Corphish]] goes up (knocking Ash from the tree), but even he is not able to do anything and falls down as well.

Exploud gets angry and out of control, destroying everything, so Grovyle uses Bullet Seed, however with no effect. Grovyle uses Quick Attack, but Exploud stops the attack. Team Rocket pity themselves when they lost the "twirps" and have gotten no sleep, either. Jessie goes mad, but stops herself on a cliff. Team Rocket look a Pokémon down and Meowthidentifies it is an Exploud. When [[Team Rocket's Meowth|Meowth]] mentions that Exploud is evolved form of Loudred, Team Rocket makes flashbacks where they encountered Loudreds. [[Jessie]] and [[James]] go away, knowing it is too powerful for them to catch.However, Meowth tells them that if Exploud was at their boss, he would have his time organized, so Jessie and James are convinced to captureit.

The gang searches for Exploud and while Grovyle goes to look after it, Ash mistakes him to be tired, but Grovyle becomes stubborn as well. Guy asks when Pokémon changes, does his personality change as well, to which Brock agrees. Guy makes a flashback when he had Whismur as a Starter Pokémon and when it evolved into Loudred, his fears were banished, but became more stubborn as well. James fires some caps to stuck into Exploud's holes and succeeds. Next thing James captures Exploud using a net. Exploud, however, blows the caps and releases himself, blasting Team Rocket immidiately. Grovyle and the gang hears Exploud and goes after it.

Grovyle quickly finds Exploud and when the sun shines, the battle starts. Exploud uses Stomp, but misses, so Grovyle pounds Exploud. Exploud uses Supersonic, hitting Grovyle. Grovyle jumps and uses Bullet Seed, hitting Exploud. The gang arrives and Exploud stands up. Grovyle uses Leaf Blade, and ignoring Guy's orders, hurts itself. Grovyle uses Leaf Blade, but Exploud stops the attack. Grovyle uses Pound, hitting Exploud. Guy is annoyed and commands Exploud, but Exploud still does not listen. Team Rocket changed their plan, capping Exploud's holes, but this time the plugs will follow Exploud. Guy sees Team Rocket and quickly stops the caps from reaching Exploud. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to stop the plugs.

Exploud gives hand to Guy, allowing him to be his trainer. Guy thanks Ash, so Ash thinks they should resume the battle. Exploud and Grovyle clash, resuming the battle.
