Ash is excited to have his new badge, so Max asks him where should he go next. Ash does not know, so Brock proposes to go back to Petalburg City. While they are walking, they encounter a bunch of Spinda. May spots another one with a heart on its face. They hear a woman calling for Spinda, so they all leave. The woman tells them that Spinda brought her luck and she needs to bring it back. A man appears, so they all introduce themselves - the woman is Claire and the man is Royce, her butler. The gang introduces themselves as well.
Fresh off his victory at the Lavaridge Gym, Ash, Brock, May and Max try to decide where to go next. Brock suggests heading towards Fortree City, but after noticing that the road there leads through a desert, he suggests a detour back towards Mauville City. May and Max remember that Mauville City is just a short distance away from their hometown Petalburg City, and suggest stopping by for a visit. Ash agrees, as now that he has three Pokémon he can challenge Norman, the leader of the Petalburg Gym (as well as May and Max's father) to an official Gym Battle.

Royce gives them the photos of Spinda with a heart on its face. They promised its owner to get it back, but they haven't been successful. Team Rocket overhears the talk of Spinda being lucky, so they go to steal it. The gang searches and Brock found it, but it has a broken heart... Royce and Claire have found the Spinda, so Ash and Max go to grab it, but Spinda jumps and evades them. Spinda went with the other Spinda, so the gang is confused which one is the correct. Team Rocket appears, sucking the Spinda into the hose (even the one with the heart on its face).
On the road to Mauville City, Ash and his friends encounter a Spinda with a heart shaped mark on its head. Before they can get too close the Spinda runs off. Soon afterwards they run into a woman named Claire and her butler Royce. She tells them that the Spinda they just saw is her lucky Spinda, it was given to her by a close friend for safekeeping and she has to catch it quickly. Smitten by her beauty, Brock agrees to do whatever it takes to find the missing Spinda, and leads the rest of his friends on a wild chase through the forest. They soon realize that the forest is home to an entire colony of Spinda, each of which has different markings. To Brock's dismay he continually comes across a Spinda with a broken heart shaped patch on its head, which serves as a constant reminder of his failure with women. Hiding nearby, Jessie, James and Meowth overhear their plan, and decide to catch the lucky Spinda for themselves.

James gets the Spinda with the heart on its face, but it uses Dizzy Punch on Team Rocket. Team Rocket gets their senses, but are soon asleep due to Hypnosis. The balloon falls down and the Spinda goes away. The gang goes to search after it. Later, Team Rocket does so as well, and Jessie made up a plan. She disguises a Teddiursa as a Spinda and when Spinda go to help it, they will take them one by one. However, Teddiursa goes straight ahead, so Jessie must focus it to go left, then right. However, a Ursaring arrives and uses Hyper Beam, blasting them off.
Ash and his friends eventually succeed in locating the Spinda, but before they can grab it Team Rocket suddenly appears, and sucks it up with their balloon. To their surprise the Spinda fights back, using Dizzy Punch and Hypnosis to send Team Rocket crashing back to earth. Crawling out of the wreckage, the Spinda runs off again, with Ash and his friends in close pursuit. Not to be deterred, Team Rocket decides to take another approach, by capturing a wandering Teddiursa and dressing it up like a Spinda in distress. This plan fails as well when the Teddiursa's parent, an angry Ursaring appears and uses Hyper Beam to blow them away. Upon landing, Jessie and James decide to use Meowth as bait instead, dressing him up as a Spinda. To everybody's surprise, the plan works and the lucky Spinda appears to save Meowth. However, when they try to capture it the Spinda uses Teeter Dance to knock them off a cliff. The Spinda begins to climb up a nearby mountain, with May, Brock, and Claire right behind it.

  +
The gang continue the search, so Ash sends Taillow to search as well. Brock gets the Spinda, but (humorously) gets the one with the broken heart. Claire makes a flashback when she met the Spinda. May sees they are almost at the top, so Clarie thinks of something. Meanwhile, Jessie makes a new plan - Meowth will act as a Spinda. Meowth thinks no Spinda will come to it, but unexpectedly, the one with the heart on its face appears before him. Team Rocket tries to catch it, but misses. Spinda runs away and dances, confusing Team Rocket. Team Rocket goes near the edge and falls down.
At the top they find a beautiful field of flowers. The lucky Spinda appears with a flower for Claire, which reminds her that this is the place where she met the Spinda's owner. She realizes that the Spinda wasn't running away at all, it was leading her to this spot. Ash, Max, and Royce appear soon afterwards, and Royce confirms Brock's deepest fears. Spinda's owner is actually Claire's fiance! To make things even worse for Brock, the fiance himself, a man named Kain suddenly appears with flowers for Claire. Their romantic moment is interrupted by another appearance by Team Rocket, who use a giant Spinda shaped robot to capture the lucky Spinda.

Angry over Claire's engagement, Brock goes into a rage and sends out all three of his Pokémon to attack the robot. Mudkip and Lotad are defeated by the robot's mecha Dizzy Punch, but an Explosion attack from Forretress destroys the robot, sending Team Rocket blasting off again.

May, Brock and Claire find the Spinda and go after it. When they arrive to the top, they see a plain of flowers - Spinda wanted to return here. Taillow has found the Spinda, so Ash, Max and Royce come as well. The Spinda with the broken heart comes to Brock. A man arrives - it is the Spinda's (with the heart) owner. The man gives her the flower - the same flower he gave her when they first met. Suddenly, they feel an earthquake!
With the happy couple and Spinda reunited, Ash and his friends, including a forlorn Brock, part ways with their new friends and continue on their way.

A giant Spinda machine appears before them - Team Rocket steals the Spinda! Spinda uses Hypnosis, but it is reflected off a mirror, so Spinda falls asleep. Brock is furious, so he sends out Forretress, Lotad and Mudkip. Lotad uses Razor Leaf and Mudkip Water Gun, but with no effect. Team Rocket release the Spinda arm, hurting Mudkip and Lotad. Forretress uses Explosion, destroying the machine. Brock and the man get Spinda (although the man gets with the heart and Brock with the broken heart). Pikachu uses Thunder, blasting Team Rocket off.

*The Trainer's Choice of Surskit being effective against Seedot is partially true as the former is also a Bug type and the latter learns no Grass moves. Delibird would be most effective since it is both part Flying-type and part Ice-type, both of which are super effective on Grass types, and Seel as it learns several Ice-type moves.

*As Team Rocket enter the Mechanical Spinda its mouth opens, however a few seconds later it opens again when Meowth pulls the lever.

Going for a Spinda (Japanese: パッチールがいっぱい!幸せさがして山の彼方に!?, HepburnLots of Spinda! Beyond the Mountain in Search of Happiness!) is the 17th episode of Pokémon: Advanced Challenge.

Episode Plot

Ash is excited to have his new badge, so Max asks him where should he go next. Ash does not know, so Brock proposes to go back to Petalburg City. While they are walking, they encounter a bunch of Spinda. May spots another one with a heart on its face. They hear a woman calling for Spinda, so they all leave. The woman tells them that Spinda brought her luck and she needs to bring it back. A man appears, so they all introduce themselves - the woman is Claire and the man is Royce, her butler. The gang introduces themselves as well.
