RS053: Game Winning Assist

Game Winning Assist (Japanese: エネコとねこのて！ドンメルの牧場！, Hepburn: Skitty and Cat's Paw! Meadow of Numel) is the 13th episode of Pokémon: Advanced Challenge.

Episode Plot

The gang is running away from Slugma. They are angry when May's Skitty attacked them which got herself out of Poké Ball. Slugma use Flamethrower, so the gang needs to get out fast. Ash sees a crack in the wall, so Pikachu uses Iron Tail to destroy the rock wall and go out. However, the gang begins to run due to narrow terrain. Everybody stands up and Skitty goes to play with a Pokémon - a Numel. Skitty tries to wake it up, despite making May angry (which got all of them chased by Slugma) and continues to annoy. May calls Skitty back, amazing the gang that Numel did not wake up yet.

Numel wakes up and goes to eat berries. A woman searches for Numel, so Brock is going with his flirting routine. The woman addresses herself as Julie, so gang introduces themselves as well. Numel runs away to eat more berries. Furret stops Numel, so Numel comes back to Julie. Julie predicts that the gang is going to Lavaride Town, since travelers that go through the Fiery Path usually encounter Slugma then end up near Julie's house. Julie offers them to stay in her home for the night and she'll make them some food, but Brock proposes that he'll cook, to which everyone supports him.

Numel go back in the field, so Team Rocket spies. James says that he had Numel to keep him warm. Jessie is amused, so she will catch the Numel, which James and Meowth agrees as well. Julie gives the Numel berries. Max and Brock offer help to feed the Numel. May challenges Ash to battle, wanting Skitty to taste a real battle. Julie wants to battle May, saying she does not get many battles. May sends Skitty, while Julie her Furret. Skitty follows Furret, but when Furret stops moving, Skitty falls down. Skitty attacks with Tackle, but Furret evades, so Skitty uses DoubleSlap.

Furret evades the attacks, tiring Skitty. May checks the Pokédex and orders Skitty to use Assist. However, Skitty uses Ember, but Furret dodges the attack anyway. Skitty uses Assist, so the attack is Silver Wind, but Furret evades. Furret attacks Skitty with Slam, defeating her. Julie says that Skitty was able to use Beautifly's and Torchic attacks. Pikachu and Skitty are shown to eat food. Julie mentions that she was a Coordinator and says that May's Skitty will be useful for Contests. Max and Brock have made dinner.

Team Rocket is going to steal Numel in a Numel-like machine, so they steal one by one. Furret and Pikachu wake up, warning everyone that something's wrong - Team Rocket is stealing Numel. Everyone gets out, so Team Rocket recites their motto. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, but fails as the machine is electric proof. Skitty goes after the Numel machine, but May grabs her and is pushed on the mechanical arms. The Numel machine jumps and the arms (with May and Skitty on them) go back into the machine.

Brock and Ash promise Max to get them back. They go inside Julie's truck to go after Team Rocket. May tries to wake Numel up, but fails, so Skitty uses Tackle to destroy the wall. Skitty bounces and falls to a Numel, waking it up. Numel wakes others up as well. Team Rocket plans what will they do, but hear Numel bashing the wall. May tries to wake the last Numel, but when Team Rocket see the Numel attacking, they spray water to calm Numel down. The last Numel wakes up.

The gang tracks the machine and speeds up. The Numel tackles the wall, but falls asleep. May orders Skitty to use Assist (Ember), but Skitty uses Gust, waking Numel up. Skitty corrects and uses Ember, powering itself up. It wakes the Numel up, so they get tempered up. Numel use Flamethrower, overheating the machine. Team Rocket uses the water spray again, calming Numel down. Skitty uses DoubleSlap, destroying the spray. Numel uses Flamethrower, setting the machine on fire. The machine is destroyed, so May and Numel go away.

Team Rocket is frustrated because of May and Skitty and sees the others arriving. Seviper and Cacnea are sent out to battle. Seviper uses Poison Tail, but Furret evades and uses Slam, knocking Seviper out. Cacnea uses Needle Arm, but Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, blasting Team Rocket off. Numel goes to eat berries. Julie thanks the gang for assistance and gives them directions to Lavaridge Town.

• Featured Pokémon: Kirlia, Graveler, Combusken, Togetic.
• In the middle of the episode, a classic Pokémon identification can be seen. The Pokémon shown was Growlithe.

Mistakes

• The Pokémon chosen to be most effective was Combusken. However, Combusken would receive more damage, as Kirlia is Psychic-type.
• In the closing credits, Karen Neill is listed instead of Caroline Hellman for "Additional Voices".
