RS030: A Meditite Fight!

Synopsis

As Ash prepares for his rematch with Brawly, he, May, Max and Brock meet a Battle Girl by the name of Shauna, whose reason for battling was to prove she was better than Ash. During their battle Brock noticed that while Ash's training was paying off Shauna battled like Ash used to. Just as the match was about to be decided Brawly appears with some mondo bad news: A hurricane was approaching which could wipe out the beach. Can our heroes manage to weather the storm, and why is Shauna so nervous around Brawly?

Plot

Ash and his Pokemon train concentraion, so they run off as the wave nearly hits them. Brock has made breakfast, so they go to eat. Suddenly, a woman is seen on a surf board and goes to the gang. She introduces herself as Shawna, the battle girl. She mentions that she is Brawly's apprentice and challenges him to a fight.

Ash accepts the challenge and chooses Pikachu to fight. However, both Shawna and Ash are hungry, so they go to eat. Meanwhile, Meowth scouts and sees the gang eating. He smells food and sees Jessie and James eating. They promised that they saved Meowth some food. Meowth thinks they should dig holes to capture the Pokemon, maybe even some extra ones.

Shawna and Ash begin to argue, making May compare them like each other. Shawna is frustrated, as Brawly said that Ash was a good Trainer, even better than her, so she challenges him to a fight to prove she's better. However, Brock interrupts, as Ash needs to clean the dishes up. Shawna helps him, but only for battling him.

Team Rocket dig the holes and Meowth says that "if they don't capture a one, then they are the idiots", but he falls into a one. Brock is gathering wood for the fire, but notices something odd - Shroomish, Seedot and Zigzagoon leave the area. Anyway, Shawna and Ash have their battle. Pikachu is looking at something, but concentrates for the battle. Shawna sends the Meditite to the fight.

Team Rocket have concealed the holes where Ash and Shawna have the battle. Meditite uses Focus Punch, but Pikachu evades the attack. Meditite uses High Kick, but he still evades. Brock notices that Shawna uses brute force while Ash uses moves like he was dodging the waves. Pikachu uses Quick Attack, but before Meditite strikes, he dodges and uses Quick Attack...

... however, Brawly appears, cancelling the fight. Brawly came to warn them that a hurricane is heading towards the island, so they need to go find a safer place. Brawly wonders why Shawna is fighting, but when Brock explains to Brawly, she huts his mouth when he mentions "your girl" and they move out, while Team Rocket go in the Magikarp submarine to evade the hurricane.

As they go to find a nearest cave, they encounter Seedot, so they join them. Next, they encounter Shroomish and they join as well. Team Rocket try to get in the submarine, but the hatch is broken, so they got blasted off from a wave. The gang goes to the cave, but they need to climb to the top, so they hold hanes, but Shawna does not want to hold hands with Brawly. May mentiones that she's Brawly's girlfriend, but Brawly denies the fact, so they continue to go towards the cave.

A thunder blasts some rocks, so Brawly sends his Hariyama to thrust the rocks. A tree falls, so Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to destroy the tree. Team Rocket appear, being blasted from the wave. Brawly approves that they should join to find the shelter from the storm. The gang and some other Pokemon have gotten into the cave, but Shawna is seperated from them.

Brock asks why she isn't his apprentice, so Brawly explaines that she uses Pokemon as a brute force than to unifiying with them. May compares her with Ash, but Ash denies that fact. Brawly then starts to discuss the fact that nature is unpredicatble and that eveyone is powerless against her. Brawly invites Team Rocket to join to the fire to which they happily agree, but Meowth has his tail burned.

The next morning, everybody awakes, but they notice that the wild Pokemon are missing. Team Rocket have stole them, so to defend, Jessie sends her Seviper and James his Cacnea. Seviper uses Poison Tail and Cacnea Pin Missile, but Pikachu evades. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, but Brawly stops the attack, as the walls would be destroyed, so he sends Hariyama and it pounds Team Rocket, blasting them off.

Shauna challenges Ash one more time, to which Ash agrees. Meditite uses Focus Punch, but Pikachu waits and uses Quick Attack, but Meditite evades. Meditite uses Meditate, so Pikachu uses Quick Attack, but once more Meditite dodges. Meditite uses High Kick. Pikachu, as from Ash's orders, closes his eyes and feels Meditite arriving like a wave, so Pikachu dodges and uses Thunderbolt, defeating the Meditite.

Brawly is quite impressed by Ash's tactics, but turns on Shauna to see if she made progress. She did, but she needs more training, so Brawly will take her as an apprentice, even if will be hard. Ash demands a rematch, so Brawly will fight him, but on a lone island. However, the sea level is dropping, revealing a path to the island.

Trivia

• Shauna says "Cowabunga", the catchphrase of Michelangelo from the 1980's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Where did Ash go?

• For a short while, Ash disappeared after Brawly mentioned the hurricane.
• Shauna was barefoot when she introduces herself, and later she was wearing shoes.

Everyone but Brawly gasps.
Brock: "So I take it you're not his top apprentice either."
Shauna is ashamed.
