Synopsis

After winning the Stone Badge from Roxanne, Ashand co. head out to the next gym, located on Dewford Island. However, Max spills a drink on May's PokéNav and rather than suffer her wrath, Max tries to find a quick solution. He sees an old man demonstrating new inventions but before he can go further, a younger man picks him up in a limo. Who is this old man, and can he help Max fix the PokéNav before May finds out it's broken?

Plot

Ash looks on his new badge, but asks Max where the next Gym is. Max looks on the device - it is Dewford Island. May and Brock read some brochures about Rustboro City. Despite Ash's will to go to the island, May and Brock decide it would be better to stay for a while in Rustboro City. Max is searching on PokéNav, but spills the drink over it, making the device useless.

Max travels around town, looking someone to repair the device. He spots a man advertising some products. One of them is a can opener, but when it opens the can, it sprays the liquid on him, so the audience disperses. The inventor turns on Max to come near him. Max explains his problem, to which the inventor replies that he should go to Devon - a company that makes a lot of inventions. A man steps out of car and running to the inventor, but the inventor goes away, so the man replies to others via his phone.

Ash contacts Prof. Oak, stating he won his first badge in Hoenn and that Pikachu knows Iron Tail attack. Brock and May have come from shopping, although May's a bit sick. It seems they are going to miss the boat to Dewford Island, but May's happy as she can do more shopping. Max came to Devon Corporation. Team Rocket arrives as well, hoping to steal some of the inventions. Max talks to the receptionist about repairing, but she tells him that they don't repair. Max walks away, but notices Officer Jenny talking - stating she heard rumors about someone infiltrating the Devon Corporation.

The inventor sneaks up on Max and guides him to a room. The inventor looks upon the PokéNav and spots that it has been wet from a drink. The inventor gives his scientists the PokéNav, demanding it to be repaired, to which the scientists agree, naming him as President. Max is surprised, as the guy following him (which is his helper) sometimes troubles him. The President guides Max for a tour of machines the company has been making - a Pokémon dream projector, Pokémon speaker and a Pokémon translator, although none have been finished. He stops for a while, showing Max the Pokémon producing machine. The machine analyzes a fossil and produces the Pokémon from the fossil.

Max asks if he should bring his friends inside, to which the President agrees. However, the man - the President's assistant - arrives to warn the President of the appointments he has to be in. Team Rocket thinks of how to bypass the security, so they disguise themselves as scientists. A man grabs some test tubes from Pokémon product. The President looks to the man that is leaving, so Max and him go to check upon him, as he knows that is not his employee.

Ash, May and Brock arrive to the Devon Corporation, asking the President's assistant where Max is. He shows them the way where Max would be. Team Rocket attempts to pass by, but Officer Jenny intercepts them, demanding their ID-s. The man whom Max and President followed goes away. The President guides Max's friends and tells Ash he reminds him of Steven, the President's son. They enter the testing area, but the scientists warn him that two tubes are missing.

Max and President follow the guy, but Max falls onto the stairs, warning the man. The man quickly climbs the stairs, running away. The President contacts his assistant, requiring assistance to track down the thief. Jessie and James try to get out of situation with Officer Jenny, saying that Meowth ate their cards. A speaker is saying that the thief is wearing glasses and a lab coat, making Team Rocket the suspects, so Jenny runs to them.

The man runs to the top, but is intercepted by May, Ash and Brock. The man calls his Crawdaunt. Pikachu uses Quick Attack to knock it out, afterwards the Crawdaunt attack Pikachu, damaging him. Team Rocket appears as well, with Jenny tracking them down. Crawdaunt uses Bubble Beam, attacking everyone. The man escapes, but Team Rocket grabs onto him, and Meowth searches into his pockets. Meowth finds the test tubes, but the rocket is failing (due to too much capacity). The tubes fall off, but Max catches all of them. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, but it hits only Team Rocket.

The gang thinks who was the man, but Jenny implicates he might be a member of Team Aqua. The police found that he escaped - his lab coat and the rocket were thrown away. Later, the President praises Max, rewarding the gang with dinner. May asks for her PokéNav, making max nervous, but the President gives Max (secretly) the PokéNav. Max gives to May the PokéNav and thanks the President.
