Synopsis
While the gang is walking through a forest May sees a Wurmple. After Ash scanned it with his Pokédex and they learn from Max that it can evolve into Beautifly, May decides to capture it and separates from the group. Meanwhile, Jessie wants to capture some Wurmple too, to give them to Giovanni and to use the others for winning contests. After a while Team Rocket attacks to May to catch the Wurmple that she saw when a boy named Franklin, who is a ranger, helps her. At the same time, Ash has a double battle against another ranger also named Franklin who is identical to the other one. What's the truth behind the two Franklins? Will Jessie and May be able to catch a Wurmple?
Plot
As the gang goes through the forest to Rustboro City, May spots a Pokemon and screams. It is a Wurmple - a Pokemon who later evolves into a Beautifly, so May is interested in catching it. The Wurmple goes away, so the others leave May to capture it, for getting the ribbon for the Pokemon Contest. Team Rocket hear the discussion, so Jessie is also bound to capture the Wurmple for same reason. As May is searching for the Wurmple, she sees a bunch of Bellossom dancing.
Team Rocket is also searching, with James looking the Pokemon in trees. Jessie makes a strong kick and the Weedle falls down. She makes another kick, making a Kakuna fall down. Next thing they knew, a bunch of angry Beedrills swoop down. As May is watching the Bellossom dancing, the Team Rocket run away from Beedrills, so does May. They fall down and as Team Rocket recite their motto, May sees a Wurmple and goes to get it. Even though they are angry for their motto being disrupted, they still go to capture the Wurmple.
May brings her Torchic, but Jessie inteferes, beinging her Seviper in as well. Jessie orders her Seviper to attack with Poison Tail, but Torchic attacks with Peck, but with no effort. James brings his Cacnea and orders it to attack with Pin Missile and with Jessie's Seviper to attack with Poison Tail. However...
...however, a Heracross pushes them out. A boy arrives, ordering the Heracross to attack with Fury - blasting the Team Rocket away. May searches for Wurmple, but the boy Franklin, gives her help. Brock is finishing lunch, while Ash trains his Pikachu to use Iron Tail. Pikachu strikes a tree, but fails to do so. PIkachu tries again, but fails to do so. A boy arrives, proposing a battle with Ash. The boy introduces himself as Franklin.
May and Franklin climbe the mountain. May almost falls, but Franklin holds her. He mentions that he was born in the area and is one of the Rangers. Franklin says to Ash they should have a double battle - having two Pokemons in a fight. Max predicts that it might be a double battle in Rustboro City Gym, so Ash accepts the challenge.
Franklin throws out his Pokeballs, calling his Ariados and Yanma out to battle. Ash chooses Pikachu and Treecko to fight. Ariados uses String Shot, but Pikachu and Treecko dodge the attack. Yanma uses Sonic Boom, but Treecko and Pikachu dodge the attack. However, Pikachu is being stuck by the String Shot, so Treecko carries Pikachu away. Araidos uses Night Shade, while Yanma uses Star Attack. Pikachu and Treecko dodge the attacks, then Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, hurting the Yanma, but is being struck by Ariados' Night Shade.
Pikachu and Treecko dodge the attacks from Yanma and Ariados. Ash orders his Treecko to use Quick Attack. Yanma and Ariados attack Treecko, but the Treecko jumps and dodges the attacks. Pikachu uses Iron Tail on Yanma, defeating it, but it fails to do so on Ariados. Piachu is hurt by String Shot, while Treecko uses Pound on Araidos, defeating it, making Ash win the battle. Franklin congratulates Ash for the vicotry and is invited for the stew Brock made.
May found some berries for Franklin and they discuss about travelling. Franklin spots the Wurmple, making May brings her Torchic out and knocking it out. May throws her Pokeball, but the Wurmple frees itself. Wurmple tackles Torchich, but Torchic counterattacks with Ember. May throws her Pokeball and succeeds in catching the Wurmple! However, Team Rocket steal the Wurmple and go away. Franklin orders his Heracross to destroy the ballon, to which it does.
Team Rocket is not satisfied, so Jessie brings her Seviper out and James his Cacnea. Seviper and Cacnea are about to use Poison Tail and Pin Missile, but Torchic uses Ember, but they dodge the attack. Cacnea hits Torchic, but Heracross stops the attack from Seviper. May, by Franklin's advice, brings her Wurmple out to fight. Wurmple uses String Shot, encasing Cacnea and Seviper. Torchic uses Ember and Heracross uses Megahorn, sending Team Rocket away.
Brock, May and Ash discuss travelling with Franklin, with May and Franklin coming back. The gang witness that there are 2 Franklins - one is Forrester and the other is Forest. Brock decides it is time for lunch, so May brings her Torchic and Wurmple out. The Wurmple eats everyone's food at a rapid speed, then falls asleep. Team Rocket hang on a tree, between 2 cliffs. James spots a Wurmple, so Jessie catches the Wurmple! However, Jessie's Wobbuffet comes out, breaking the tree and making the Team rocket fall down.
