Synopsis

Ash and the group are nearly at Rustboro City when two Coordinators, Chaz and Janet, stop them and tell them about Pokémon Contests. Meanwhile, Jessie renews her Contest Pass and Ash, May and Brock get Passes also. Then, Chaz helps Ash to teach Iron Tail to Pikachu, while May becomes more interested in Pokémon Contests. Things are getting really tough when Chaz and Janet battle each other to the finals. Who will be named the winner and will Ash's Pikachu master Iron Tail?

Plot

The gang arrives to Rustboro Hall, to which Ash mistakes that they are in Rustboro City, but Max corrects him that they are near it. Max spots that the a Pokemon Competition is held, and as May wonders what it is, she gets attacked by a butterfly. Ash scans the Pokemon, revealing it to be a Beautifly. A woman and a man come, but Brock makes his flirting gesture to the woman, though the Beautifly scolds him.

The woman and the man introduce themselves as Janet and Chaz, witht he gang introducing themselves as well. Janet explaines that in Pokemon Contest Pokemon have to impress the audiance with beautiful, not powerful attacks. The gang decides to enter the contest. Inside, Jessie of Team Rocket also enters the contest. Jessie shows the woman her Contest card, but the woman replies it is expired, though she renews the card.

The gang is being refused to enter the Contest, with the last participants being occupied the spots. The woman, however, gives them tickets to watch the show. The Beautifly arrives to May's head. Max then advises that May should be Janet's assistant, to which Janet agrees. Brock speaks with Chaz, seeing that Chaz gives his Venomoth the Pokeblocker to improve its skill. Chaz asks if they are going to Rustboro City for the Gym battle, to which May and Ash agree. However, Chaz mentions that the Gym leader focuses on Rock-type Pokemon.

Chaz offers to teach Ash to order Pikachu to use the Iron Tail attack. Chaz brings out his Sentret and orders to use Iron Tail on the rock nearby. The rock is crushed, so Ash and Pikachu train. Meanwhile, Jessie studies the book on stylish Pokemon attacks, stating that if she wins, that she will have her fan club, which makes more Team Rocket members to be recruited.

Ash and Pikachu practice more, with Taillow hitting the tree so that apples drop for Pikachu to deflect with his tail. Ash spots that the Contest is beginning, with Chaz's Venomoth making things levitate. Chaz's Venomoth gets 29.5 points. It is Janet's turn, so she brings her Beautifly out and orders to use Flash. Max and May throw plates, for Beautifly to destroy them. Janet orders to use Hidden Power. Janet's Beautifly gets 30 points.

It is Jessica (aka Jessie)'s turn. She brings her Seviper and orders it to use Sacred Fire, to which it is very confused, not knowing the attack. Jessica orders the Seviper to use Water Pulse, Blazekick , but it just shakes its head. Meowth advises Jessie to use Poison Tail, to which she agrees, but Seviper strikes her, sending her away. Jessica's Seviper gets 0 points. The leaderboard is shown, with 4 finalists - Chaz, Janet and 2 unknown persons.

While Seviper and Jessie cry for the loss, Meowth has a new plan to steal all Pokemon from the contest. Jessie happily agrees as if it was her own plan. Janet and Chaz enter the finals, so they need to impress the audience within 5 minutes. Venomoth uses Stun Spore, while Beautifly uses Gust to blow the spores away. Both finalists lost points, though Janet lost less as her Beautifly defended itself from the attack. Beautifly uses Hidden Power, and despite Chaz ordered to defend, Venomoth got itself struck with the attack.

Venomoth uses Saybeam, hitting the Beautifly. Beautifly uses Morning Sun, healing itself. The both Pokemon charge - Venomoth using Saybeam and Beautifly Hidden Power. Janet and Chaz have a tie. Beautifly and Venomoth use their last attacks. The victory goes to Janet and her Beautifly. Jessie and James appear, with them congratulating to Janet. James gives her a bunch of flowers, but it is revealed to be an smoke attack!

James and Jessie take their disguises off, with Venomoth adn Beautifly being captured. Jessie brings her Seviper out, though Ash orders his Pikachu to use Iron Tail to attack. However, Pikachu fails to do so. May brings her Torchic to the fight, tackling the Seviper and using Ember to set Venomoth adn Beautifly free. Both Venomoth and Beautifly use Gust to send Team Rocket away. Janet shows her ribbon, with May promising to enter a contest on her own and Ash needing to teach Pikachu to use Iron Tail.
