The reason is that his Pelipper knows Fire, Grass and Electric type moves instead of only Water and Flying type moves. Plot
The episode begins with the narrator making flashbacks of Ash arriving into Hoenn, having met May and her brother Max, with Brock reuniting with him on his adventures. Also, the flashbacks also reveal Taillow and Treecko, the Pokemon Ash caught, joining him.
