RS004: You Never Can Taillow

You Never Can Taillow (Japanese: スバメがいっぱい　危険がいっぱい！トウカの森でゲットだぜ！！, Hepburn: Full of Taillow, Full of Danger! Get it in Petalburg Woods!) is the 4th episode of Pokémon: Advanced.

Synopsis

Ash, May and May's little brother Max are now en route to Rustboro City—and they're hungry! No one remembered to pack lunch. As they fight over one remaining cookie, Ash remembers how nice it was to have Brock cooking for him and Misty. He's quickly brought back to reality when a Taillow takes off with the cookie. The gang follows Taillow to a grove filled with apple trees. Ash and May eagerly shake the trees, hoping to make the apples drop to the ground. Instead of apples, Ash and May shake loose an angry flock of territorial Taillow. There's too many for Ash, Max, and May to handle alone. Out of nowhere, Brock appears and saves the day with his Forretress—and his incredible soup! They manage to defeat and feed all of the Taillow except the one who took the cookie. Taillow are naturally resilient, but this particular one is especially tough. Ash can't seem to defeat it, so instead he decides to catch it. Team Rocket bribes the Taillow with rice balls to capture Pikachu. After their plan fails because Brock fed the Taillow who lost interest in fighting, Team Rocket is still intending to capture Pikachu as he may be weak from hunger. Unfortunately for them, Pikachu ate Brock's Pokémon food already and Team Rocket is soon blasted off. With Brock and Taillow on tow, Ash and friends continue on to Rustboro City.

Episode Plot

Ash, May and Max travel through Petalburg Wood. Max does not see a single Pokémon, while May wishes for lunch. May and Max argue, pulling Ash on each other's side. Ash yells out they will have a lunch break, then see which way to go, pleasing both sides. They stop for a bit to get lunch, but realize nobody brought lunch. Pikachu takes out a can of Pokémon food, but is terrified there is no food in it. Ash finds it bad that Brock is not with him, who knew how to cook good food. Team Rocket observes and Meowth orders to catch Pikachu. However, Jessie and James are eating sandwiches and do not want to capture it yet, making Meowth annoyed. Max searches and finds a cookie, for each one will get one bite. However, a shadow snatches the cookie.

Ash, May and Max track the thief, who is a Taillow. Taillow stops on a branch and eats the entire cookie, making May very sad. Ash is confident they will get food in next town. However, Pikachu points at some leftovers, so Ash sees there is fruit in the trees. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to knock down the fruit, but the fruit gets taken by Taillow, who eats them. May is displeased, while the Taillow are angry for May, Ash and Max walked into their territory. They go to attack, but get electrocuted by Pikachu's Thunderbolt. However, the Taillow stand up, even if they get hit by another Thunderbolt, for they don't back down. Team Rocket see the Taillow and admire their will to fight the twerps. The heroes think the one that ate the chocolate is the leader. It attacks, so Pikachu dodges, but gets hit a moment later. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, though Taillow still has the will to battle.

The Taillow go to strike, but a man comes and sends Forretress, who uses Explosion. Ash notices that is Brock. Brock leads them to a river, where they are safe. Brock meets Ash and Pikachu, the latter being hurt. Brock sprays a potion on Pikachu, healing him. Brock tells that he went back home and everything was fine. Birch told him Ash went to Rustboro City, so Brock followed him here. Ash introduces Brock to May and Max, telling Brock was a Gym Leader in Pewter City. May and Max tell their father is also a Gym Leader. Brock thinks they would also want to be Gym Leaders, but Max tells he hasn't gotten a Pokémon yet. Brock tells he will get one in time, then remembers storing all his Pokémon but Foretress back home. May heard Brock was a good cook and wishes for a sample. Brock proposes to have lunch, but is terrified, as his sandwiches are gone.

The heroes believe Taillow stole the sandwiches as they did with the cookie. Still, Brock goes to cook a stew, pleasing May and Max, though Brock goes to serve Pikachu first, making him overjoyed. Meanwhile, Team Rocket approaches the Taillow and offer them sandwiches. The Taillow fly over and eat away the sandwiches, wishing for more. Jessie tells they will have more food if they do some work first. As Brock cooks the stew, Taillow came back. Ash thinks it wants a battle, while Brock believes Taillow wants to prove which challenger is stronger. Taillow goes to attack, but Pikachu uses Quick Attack, though misses. Taillow gets hit by Thunderbolt, but still goes to attack Pikachu and misses. Taillow grabs Pikachu by his tail and does not let go of him, even if getting electrocuted. Pikachu falls down, so he uses Thunder on Taillow, causing a great splash. However, Taillow does not quit, so Brock advises Ash to catch it. Taillow goes to strike, but Ash throws the Poké Ball and catches Taillow.

Later, Ash lets Taillow out, who is exhausted, so Brock uses a potion on it. Ash proposes it to come with them, which Taillow accepts. The heroes introduce themselves to Taillow (though May does it behind Brock). Ash is glad he caught Taillow. Suddenly, the flock of Taillow come, as do Team Rocket, who persuaded them to fight the twerps. They did already give the sandwiches as an offering, making Brock, Ash and May very angry. Taillow go to attack, so May sends Torchic, who gets too excited and bashes into a rock. May calls it back and knows she has never been humiliated like that in her whole life. The Taillow go to attack, but an alarm rings, as the stew is ready. The Taillow join the heroes, displeasing Team Rocket. They go to get Pikachu while he is hungry, but Pikachu simply blasts them off with Thunderbolt, as Pikachu already ate some food.

Later, May and Max are pleased about Brock's cooking. Brock admits May and Max eat as much as Ash, making cooking even more fun. The Taillow are about to depart, so Ash's Taillow bids farewell to them. Ash sees they can go to Rustboro City, but Brock reminds him, May and Max they need to do the dishes.
