A.J.'s Sandshrew

A.J.'s Sandshrew is one of the first Pokémon that A.J. is seen with. Debuting in The Path to the Pokémon League. A.J.'s Sandshrew first goes up against Ash's Pidgeotto, and once Ash's Pidgeotto is defeated A.J.'s Sandshrew goes up against Ash's Butterfree. Ash's Butterfree is told to use Stun Spore, which leads to A.J.'s Sandshrew being told to use Dig to avoid the Stun Spore. Then jumping out of the ground, the Sandshrew defeats Butterfree. Ash then wants his Pikachu to go up against A.J., Pikachu then refuses, causing A.J. to come out victorious.
A.J.'s Sandshrew is later seen in the pool where it was captured by Team Rocket. Sandshrew is able to escape Team Rocket's clutches by using Dig to get back to A.J.'s Gym. Sandshrew then has a battle with two of Team Rocket's Pokémon, Koffing and Ekans. Sandshrew then dodged Koffing's attack and caused Ekans to tangle upon itself, Sandshrew then finished them off with Fissure.
